Okay who wishes the award was given out after the tourney now?! There is not a brain cell in your cranium if you wouldn't give the award to Linc now

Yes on this. I don't know why they do it this way.
Everybody now knows Linc is that man!

With that said, my bold prediction for Linc Darner is that GB is shopping for a new head coach in April. Central Florida is 6 years into the Donnie Jones era, and is getting worse. In 3 years in the American Conference they have been bad. UCF has a new athletic director that was just hired in December. They have pretty solid financial backing. Just looking that situation over I would guess they move on from Jones. Darner won a D2 title 75 miles down the road from UCF and will likely have a 20 win season under his belt in his first D1 season. That has to look tempting to UCF when and if they make a move. I hope you are wrong, I like Darner and would love to see what he could do with 5 or 6 years on the job. Having said that, I do think he is already an attractive candidate for coaching jobs and it must be difficult moving a family from Florida to Wisconsin. I am just wanting to enjoy the ride that Linc is steering right now. Thank you to Linc for ending the drought. I attach this link as nothing more than reference to see if his name comes up eventually. espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/14947952/ucf-knights-fire-coach-donnie-jones-12-18-season

I hope Linc stays around another year and takes an experienced roster, fully indoctrinated in his system, back to the NCAA's and win the HL regular season while he's at it. Minnesota still has not hired a full-time AD yet, and is in the middle of a Title IX investigation. That athletic department is a mess on the heels of the Norwood Teague firing......Illinois just went through a massive house cleaning and that athletic department is still in a mess from the Beckman and Divilbliss scandals......I don't know if Linc's family is fulled transitioned to the GB area or not, but Cent. FL is a possibility especially if it's in an area he's been familiar with for almost a decade.
With the team he has coming back, coming in year 2 and taking a team to 2 NCAA's in his first 2 seasons will look more impressive to more schools. To be honest, there are better programs out there than Illinois, Minnesota, and Cent. FL.
Regardless, this is a life of a mid-major program who gets some success. The only coach I see hanging around for a while is Bryce Drew. He was literally born and raised on Valpo basketball and will have job security unless he suddenly bottoms out and has a string of single-digit win seasons or there is a scandal.
I'm surprised that his assistant pool is only $176K to be divided up by 4 people. Hope he can get that bumped up in the off-season.

I just don't see a high level major program hiring a coach based off one season. If does this after 2-3 years then yeah I agree there will be suitors. In college in which I am sure you all know, coaching is more than just what happens on the court. High majors, want to see a coach who can build up a program and sustain it.

I feel like all of this is an overreaction. The guy just got here I highly doubt he jumps ship especially with the prospect of really having the power to build the program he wants here.

Probably, but you never know who may reach out to MEG (or an intermediary for MEG or even Linc) to gauge interest. I wouldn't be surprised if Linc and his staff got a small raise after the season. It would be more symbolic than anything, but if he is as good of a coach as he is, this may be our reality next season. TK and BW did less and left for bigger jobs, but they also stuck around for 5-6 years.

I've chimed in on this subject before. Linc stayed at FSC for 9 seasons, 7 of which were great, 1 was the team he was left with (the worst followed by a housecleaning) and the other a midcourse rebuild. He'll be around for a while and I would urge him not to leave GB for anything less that a top drawer offer. They will come, but it's really too soon.
Linc should enjoy himself at GB - I don't think the next gig will be quite as mellow.

In general I think there is too much money in coaching at higher levels for guys to stay loyal. In GB you are a looking at a program that couldn't afford to send its band and cheerleaders to the HL tournament while having to take a bus home after winning. I would guess when the time comes Linc will have to take a long hard look at any opportunity from a higher rated conference or team with more of a budget. If he does eventually land a job like that, good for him and likely GB fans will be happy with the winning while he was here.
For now though I would like to hold any more discussion on this topic until after the task at hand is completed...winning some tournament games next week!

And yes if you throw 200k at him of course he is going to jump ship. Even Butler's coach jumped ship knowing he had a steady career in IN. I suspect that the teams mentioned have or will have some contact with our coach. Strike while the iron is hot and it is hot.

I don't think Linc Darner is the kind of coach that will jump at the first opportunity just because.
