68-67 final.....I would like to get Panther's take on this. Bucky could not contain Jordan Johnson. UW is woefully thin and inexperienced at guard. Other than Koenig, they have nobody (Showalter has moments, but he is a borderline Big Ten talent). They will have a hard time defending small, quick PG's this season. Maybe GB has a chance on 12/23??? www.jsonline.com/sports/badgers/panthers-stun-badgers-b99631254z1-361365921.html

The combo of Jordan Johnson and the size Milwaukee presents kept the Panthers in this game. They took advantage of a Wisconsin team that got jump shot crazy once again and play Vito Brown way too many minutes considering how terrible he played. I was shocked that Alex Illkaenen never saw the floor. Horizon league is down but Milwaukee may be best equipped to beat Valpo. Finally a good night for the league with Detroit beating Toledo and Valpo over Indiana State. If Wisconsin plays like that on the 23rd, we can hang with them.

A great win for Milwaukee. With it being at the Kohl Center that has been a house of horrors for most non con opponents but in particular Milwaukee and GB. Add in Chris Beaver and Bo Borowski working the game and you have an uphill climb.
When Milwaukee got down double digits early he looked like it was curtains for them. Yet 3 things stood out in their rally. First, Johnson was a stud for them. I am stunned his box score didn't look better because he just made a lot of good plays on top of scoring. Two, they had experience and their guys didn't wilt even when the going was tough, there is something to be said for that. Third, is Koenig, Brown and Hayes all thought it was NBA night at the Kohl Center. Brown shot a lot for a guy who looks like he sucks. Hayes was a beast going one on one but that is all he did down the stretch and it became easier to contain when you know a guy isn't passing. Koenig hit a a big shot but what a bonehead last play. Down 1 point, in the double bonus being guarded by one the Prahl's who has to be the slowest guy on the court. Instead of using freedom of movement rules to his advantage and driving in to draw what should be an easy foul he takes a step back 3 pointer. How dumb can you be?
Their is no way Bo lets that happen again on 12/23. I can't believe he let those guys play 1 on 5 late in the game.
One side note. When you are legend nobody calls this out and when you are below the top level fans are up your tail about this kind of thing. I believe Nigel Hayes missed his last 2 free throws late in the game. If that happened by a team coached by Linc, Wardle, Tk, Jeter etc fans would be going nuts over how these guys can't coach. Yet here is Bo Ryan with an NBA prospect having a career high scoring game and nothing is said about the two missed free throws.

I am not a Milwaukee fan but am happy they beat Madison in Madison. it is good for mid majors and the HL as a whole. It sounds like they have quite the point guard and has we have seen in the past Madison cant handle quick point guards very well.

Make no mistake, the Panthers are pretenders. Once the HL starts, they will fall back to Earth, mark my words.

I found myself rooting for Milwaukee last night as they played a good game and I thought it would have been a shame if they would have blown that kind of opportunity.
I look at UWM as a tough matchup for UWGB this year. Tiby was tough to deal with even 2 years ago and he's maybe even better now. Arians is back though he certainly didn't have his best night last night. That PG they added looks like the real deal. I think this UWM team might be better than the one from 2 years ago. I would not be surprised at all if it's Valpo and Milwaukee competing for the title. I just think UWGB just falls short of those teams in overall talent right now.
Hopefully Knight is right and UWM is a pretender, but watching them last night, they looked very impressive to me.

Just remember that Milwaukee struggled to beat SIU Edwardsville at home last week, a terrible team that GB destroyed on the road. I'd expect Milwaukee to be maddeningly inconsistent, just as so many of Jeters teams are. I still expect Valpo to run away with the conference, with Oakland in 2nd.

The end was probably the worst ten minutes of basketball I have witnessed from a Bo Ryan coached UW team to choke that game away. Yet a win over UW is a win and I don't want to take anything away from Milwaukee even if I do agree they will be inconsistent this year.
