I took a quick look at the roster and stats for siue. They have a lot of size up front with several transfers. They use this size to get a fair amount of offensive boards for easy baskets. GB will need big games on the glass from their forwards.
They are not great shooters especially from deep but they do take a lot of 3's for a team that doesn't shoot that well. The more GB can do to keep them outside the better.
SIUE doesn't force a lot of turnovers and didn't get a lot of blocks or steals. I am not sure if that is a function of who they played (Butler, St Louis and IPFW) or how they play.

Another OVC- low major school that looks to be an RPI 250+ program. GB is 5pt favorites according to the line on ESPN. Another good opportunity to get a win on the road which will only build confidence leading into the Toledo game.

They played Butler extremely tough on Saturday at Butler. It was a 3-5 point game until 4 mins left. Hopefully they play like they did against IPFW.

Impressive victory lead from wire to wire. Wnen I tuned in it was 12 -2 or3. I believe Fouse had a career high in points. Love also was hot. Final 87-69 A lot of players played very well. Never really any doubt about game only the final score. After being ahead by 20 most of the 1st half SIUE made a couple of 2nd half runs but GB answered each time. I will look for the stats.
Fouse 8-16 4-5 22, Love 5-11 3-4 17, Cooper 7-8 1-2 15, Botz 4-7 0-0 10, Lowe 4-6 2-2 10, Small 3-8 2-2 7, Kanter 1-2 0-0 2, An. Brown 1-2 0-1 2, Hurdle 1-1 0-0 2, Findlay 0-3 0-0 0. … Totals 34-64 10-14 87.

Impressive margin of victory. Jon Harris had his hands full trying to turn that program into something.
GB moved the ball quickly and crisply in their 4 out offense, and defended the ball well in their half court defense.
This win sets the stage fun Sundays big showdown versus Toledo.

GB did what they try to do best and were plus 11 on points off of turnovers. SIUE did what they do best and were plus 11 on offensive rebounds and second chance points. SIUE had some big guys down low who had some game but their guard lineup wasn't that talented. Lowe battled hard down low but was certainly undersized. He was pretty efficient offensively and didn't get down about pretty much being not used in the second half at EIU. If Love and Fouse are going to be that hot shooting there are not a lot of mid and low majors that can overcome that. Add in Botz with his best game ever in my opinion and Cooper being strong at the hoop and you have a huge lead and relatively easy win.
In the end Darner seems to be getting guys on the same page and getting wins against the teams that they should beat. Now I will be curious to see how often they face zone going forward and what adjustments they make to score against a zone because that did slow GB down a lot in the second half.
I like that GB has some momentum and some time off to prepare for Toledo coming up. Toledo is playing well with a lot of young players and they have a very solid big man to stop. I think I speak for all Phoenix fans when I suggest we want a win against TK really badly. I don't dislike the guy but I think we as fans can't help but want to beat any coach who leaves for a "better opportunity."

It does appear they are making the adjustment to the new style and coach. Impressive win on the road. SUIE plays Milwaukee next, it will be interesting to see how they match up.

Against SUIE the Nix looked like world beaters. If nothing else this road trip should build confidence individually and in the system Darner is implementing. Botz was the latest player to show me something I haven't seen from him during his college career. Findley and Small are two others I never expected to see being contributors. Even Fouse's game has taken on a new dimension on the offensive side of the ball.
I think this philosophy of using a deep bench will pay off toward the end of the season. Everyone who is eligible with the exception of Uwadiae is seeing PT. He remains a mystery man and I can't predict what will happen on that front. With his size it sure would have been interesting to see his impact against the SUIE bigs.
I think what we're seeing from the Nix this season is the impact of a veteran head coach. Recruiting is one thing, and it's important, but being able to mold young players into a team that buys into a system has to be the next step in developing a winner.

Henry didn't make the trip so he didn't play in either game. This was about the same time last year that he was having grade problems? You're right Botz, Findley and Small are looking like they belong.

I know Henry didn't make the trip, just wondering if he will have a role and what is the potential. SUIE had a number of D1 big men transfer into the school. That would have been interesting seeing him matched up against those guys. I wish the Uwadiae well.
