Green Bay(2-3) @ Eastern Illinois(0-3) When: Saturday, 7:00 Where: Lantz Arena, Charleston, Illinois Media: Ohio Valley Digital Network, WNFL 92.1, 1440
Time to get the first road win of the season. I'm hoping the Phoenix play this game like they did versus Akron, with no trapping defenses. GB was effective using a light man pressure just to slow the ball up the court, which forced Akron to get into their offense with time burned off the new shorter shot clock, enabling GB's most impressive defensive effort of the season.
Also want to continue to see more of Tevin Findlay, and more of Jordan Fouse handling the ball in critical situations.

Riley is a bull in this game. His shooting percenatge on the season suggests he should come back to earth in the second half.
I don't see Hendo on the bench, any word on his status?

A few breakdowns with the d but overall they did seem to wear down an inferior team with defensive effort.
The free throw adventure continued. Love was mostly steady at the end desite being off most of the game. Fouse with a late pair and a second half three, the veterans really stepped up.
I would really like to see more of Tevin even though I understand Anthony Brown needs the pt to get ready for the future.
Avery Brown got a lot of shots up in his short time on the court.
Hurdle with a lot of nice effort plays, by far his best game. Turner couldn't make a shot but did give a good effort in other areas.
Linc had a lot of fire in the first half, he looked like he was close to getting a technical.
Riley was allowed to use his body a lot, that is going to be hard to stop for a guy his size. I thought Tevin played him well in the second half despite the refs not calling much against Riley.
Good to get a road win, now to do the same on Monday.

They won the game by pressing and trapping in the 2nd half. Wore them out, forced turnovers, won the game.

I was only able to see the last 10-12 minutes of the game and was really impressed with the effort and havoc the phoenix caused. Anthony Brown is the PG of the future but I want to see Tevin get 20 minutes a game going forward. He looks confident, can display his athleticism in this system, and takes the shots the defense is giving him. Love and Fouse played like seniors down the stretch and made plays. Need better performances from Lowe to beat better D1 programs. 410 fans made it out to the game last night in Charleston. Puts the 2200 that we get on weekday NC games in perspective.

They won the game by pressing and trapping in the 2nd half. Wore them out, forced turnovers, won the game. Green Bay was actually only +4 in the turnover battle. The big difference in this game was GB had a whopping 18 offensive rebounds. Eastern Illinois is terrible, but every road win is a good win. Love, Fouse, Small, and Findlay continue to impress.

The big difference to me was everything in the second half was a big difference. The defense, the rebounding, the shot selection, the shooting the officiating etc.
The turnover battle was only +4 to GB but 13 of the 21 were steals. GB was +10 on points off turnovers so they made the most off of the slim +4 advantage they had. I think that it helped that several of GB's turnovers were offensive fouls so it was a dead ball compared to Love having two big steals in the second half for example that led to hoops.
When GB wasn't hitting they were getting misses and scoring. They were +10 if offensive rebounds and were +9 on second chance points.
The shot selection improved for GB, they were 2-10 from deep in the first half and 3-8 of in the second. Deep shooting is not the strength of this team and only Tevin seems to be hitting consistently, even if he did need the bank for one! Working the ball inside or getting easier transition hoops really helped.
For EIU they struggled to get good shots in the second half against the GB defense. They were 3-7 from deep in the first and 0-12 in the second. Their overall field goal percentage dropped by 9% from the 1st to the 2nd. That goes along with what I watched in GB's defense was just better in most aspects. The only time I was upset was #15 driving coast to coast against Cooper twice for hoops. I don't know who is supposed to help Cooper if anyone but those were the only two easy scores I remember.
It also helped that GB was able to get on the good side of a few block/charge calls as the first 3 or 4 of the game went against them. The officials never really did anything to control Riley who had the chicken wing/push off going all night. GB just made him work a lot harder to get the ball and that slowed him down as he settled for lower quality shots.
That crowd was small. I think EIU football is popular and they were finishing their game at the same time this one started. The arena doesn't look like much and from what I can tell Charleston, IL isn't a huge metropolis so this wasn't a hot ticket. If anything this kind of made me realize that some mid and low majors have the ability to move up the chain and some do not. EIU in my opinion will always be at their level. GB with the larger metro area to draw from, not having college football to compete with and really good facilities could move up if they could ever raise the money it takes to compete at a higher level.
