The last "Fireside" interview with the Nix athletic director is well worth watching. As a former media guy some of the tech production issues were irritating but the information was solid regarding the process surrounding the hiring of Darner, the addition of Northern Kentucky to the conference and the decision to move the men's conference tournament to Detroit. www.greenbayphoenix.com/When the radio play by play guy calms down and genuinely talks he's much better. I hope he translated the approach I saw on the video to his game coverage.

I thought MEG blundered right off the bat by describing the coaching search as incredibly fast, when we all already knew she ran the process glacier slow. Interesting that she described a major positive of NKU is that they're urban public. So what separates them from IUPUI? Only thing I can see is that IUPUI has already had D1 success. NKU has no D1 success and won't have any anytime soon. Sounds like the move of the conference tournament to a neutral site was simply to save money, with little regard to whether holding tournament championships in an old empty arena would hurt the perception of the conference. Still very interesting to hear her speak somewhat candidly on all the important subjects.

When the radio play by play guy calms down and genuinely talks he's much better. I hope he translated the approach I saw on the video to his game coverage. I hope Matt doesn't change a thing. I think he's outstanding. I thought his call of Green Bays big win over Miami was perfection. Basketball isn't the local news, it's good to be excited when play warrants it.

Shooting J, I did radio play by play. The first lesson is not to do the call at a constant high intensity from the start because there's no where to go from that level. There's no texture to the delivery. It's uncomfortable with someone speaking outside of their natural voice range. Follow the action smoothly and when something special happens you go to a higher intensity level.
I'm sure the guy who does the play by play for GB is a good person. He just needs some coaching and encouragement. One of the biggest problems I've seen over the years in broadcasting is a lack of quality feedback for young broadcasters. Many times they get into bad habits and it hurts their career goals.
As to MEG -- she's doing PR not news and that's OK. Even if we don't agree with some of what she and the league are doing I'll give her this -- she has high energy.
