The usual gameplan against another undersized team. Need to continue to dominate the glass. YSU has a very legit center in Bobby Hain, but are small and quick everywhere else. YSU played better than expected in the non-conference, but their defense and rebounding have been exposed in the conference season. Protect the 3 point line and get another win.

I'll be watching the Packers on tv but I'll watch UWGB in person. It's warmer that way lol.

Phoenix wins a easy one. First half was close but 2nd was a blow out. All 12 players got some minutes. Keifer got Love and Mays going in the 1st half and then they got Keifer going in the 2nd. Fouse, May's, Love, Amack and Keifer all had solid games. Subs got some decent playing time. Lowe filled in for Amack and got some rebounds and a few points including I think all of his FT's? My usual complaint FT% should have been in the 70%'s. Ref's hurt Amack with 2 early bad fouls so he got his time in the 2nd half. But ref's were equally bad for both teams and really hurt tempo. Seemed like they got a bonus for every time they blew the whistle which made it hard to watch. I found the stat's and we shot 75% FT's. Between the 2 teams 50 fouls, maybe 20-25 earned. Does anybody know why Keifer got a T. It was right in front of us and we didn't? He didn't seem like he was talking or doing anything but walking. Crowd was better than I expected and a lot of booing on some of the calls. sports.yahoo.com/ncaab/youngstown-state-penguins-green-bay-phoenix-201501110652/

I am not positive by any means but it looked like from where I was he got elbowed pretty hard while going for a rebound or putback (I can't recall exactly) and the ref said something to him then he got like an inch away from the ref's face and Keifer had a few presumably harsh words with him.

Still looking for a consistent rotation. You can mess around and still be fine against a team like Youngstown St or Milwaukee, but there needs to be some consistency when we play Valpo and Cleveland St. The second half against Milwaukee was a telling sign that you can't run these starters for 32+ minutes a night, give them a break! Again tonight, the lead slipped greatly at times throughout the second half.
BW needs to use that bench more often, there are high energy guys who can bringin quick scoring and toughness. Small, Botz and Hendo are all over the board with minutes, does it make any sense to think these guys can help us if they never know if they'll play or not? All three of them seem to have a short leash, especially Botz, IMO due to the struggles at times on D, but he brings a different game to the court that tends to open up the lane for our guards, because teams know he is coming in to put up some deep shots, so it really spreads the floor for the Phoenix, as was seen in Milwaukee. Small is a great slasher and maybe would've benefited from a red shirt because we have so many guys who right now can get to the rim at any time that are right now older and more game experienced than he is. But from watching this team and other teams around the nation you need a good balance, and I still don't see it, but I'm looking forward to the end of the month with Valpo and Cleveland St. Still plenty of time before those games to find that good, consistent group of guys.

GB won this game with athletic ability. They killed YSU on the glass. They had their defensive hands on the ball and blocked shots. They had some penetration for easy hoops and dishes for dunks. It was good to see them hit 75% from the line. Lowe stopped doing that shimmy and just shot it, that led to two ft makes.
There was a bad stretch in the first half with Small and Francis playing together. It looked like BW was experimenting and that didn't work as GB couldn't score with those guys out there. Also, for as much as BW yells about having the hands up can anyone explain why Hendo played defense against Hain with his hands down? Hain made a hook right over Hendo...which led to a hook to the bench for him. As for Botz after his defensive showing in Milwaukee I wouldn't have played him much either. Yes he made a 3 but the guys he was guarding a lot (Tiby and Springs) destroyed him by scoring at will.
It was good to get a win. I would call that a standard win at home over YSU. The game has some close moments but in the end they pulled out a double digit win. I thought I heard YSU hasn't won in GB for over a decade.

Looking at the box score, I expected a little larger crowd (only 2400+) since there was the buzz after the Packer win over Dallas. I would have thought there would have been more of a walk-up crowd....

Thanks that makes sense. I saw him get hit around the head when he went up. With the Officials calling every thing even my wife said why wasn't that a foul. Maybe he did also? The only one around him was the ref and it looked like he was close. Keifer just looked like he was walking with his head down so it would have been hard to see if he said something.

In a day where major upsets ruled college basketball, I'm happy the Phoenix took care of business and came away with a convincing win. This was their 12 win this season of 13 points or more.
I love how it's become commonplace for the team to open the 2nd half with a huge run. It was a 23-7 run to begin the second stanza that put this game away.
I'm really happy for Greg Mays that he responded to the benching the right way. Simply by raising his energy level he's dominating games and having fun again.

This might sound weird, but I'm kinda disappointed in that none of the players really seem to get each other pumped up before the games anymore. I remember one of the best things to watch about this team last year was when Vince Garrett would circle the guys up and do a dance or something and it would get everyone really fired up. I don't see that anymore. I remember Small would do a little something earlier this year, but nothing that anyone on the team would get excited about. The starters now just do a quiet little huddle and it looks like they emerge from it with no intensity on their faces. I see far more pregame intensity from other teams, and this may be a HUGE reach, but perhaps it could contribute to some of our slow starts (this game was exempt).

I would have thought there would have been more of a walk-up crowd.... I was at both games but my mother lives a couple of blocks away so it is convenient. I suppose I could have sat t a bar for a few hours, but after sitting in the cold I think most people just are ready to go home. There were a few fans at the Phoenix game in Cowboy jerseys a few rows in front of me. They were probably staying over and looking for something to do.

I have noticed the lack of enthusiasm as well. I kind of chalked it up as just taking care of business. Hopefully they are handling it a business like manner and not taking teams too lightly. The conference schedule has been favorable so far but that will soon change.
