Morehead was projected to be one of the top 3-4 teams in the OVC but they are off to a slow start with a 2-8 D1 record and a 279 RPI. Saw them play a little against Ohio State Saturday and they have athletes and will play up-tempo basketball. Lost to Oakland at home in OT. Hoping to see GB get more points in transition and win by double digits.

Don't think Morehead can be judged by their record. They've played a lot of close games against decent competition including UNLV, Cincinnati, and Ohio State. Only have two double digit losses. Looks like they can shoot the ball from the outside pretty well, but struggle on the glass. I think playing up-tempo would play right into GB's hands.
Hopefully this will be a game where Mays can get going, as I don't think he's been playing well at all thus far. He needs to work from the inside out, rather than the other way around. I didn't think the loss of Brown would have this much of an impact on him, but something is definitely missing in his game early on.

Fun game to watch, started out 12-0 and stayed around 8-12 until we pulled away in 2nd half. 12 different players scored. It looked like Morehead was determined not to let us dunk or let Keifer shoot. Only negative again FT's. We shoot 57.1% with Keifer and Turner going 13-14 so you can see what everyone else did. It's time for FT drills until it gets better! sports.yahoo.com/ncaab/morehead-state-eagles-green-bay-phoenix-201412170652/

Some takeaways from the game in the form of Good, Bad, & Ugly
Good: - Love continuing to be aggressive on offense, which will be vital to the team's success. Five assists by him are great and I'm not sure if he got credit for the pass off the glass to McKinnie. - Big Hendo showing a little bit of a mean streak. I thought him and Fuggins (MSU #11) were going to come to blows. If he can continue to provide 10 minutes like that off the bench, it will go a long way towards this team not getting pushed around by more physical opponents. - McKinnie's stretch off the bench in the 2nd half was the best I've ever seen him play. He was all over the offensive glass for about a 5-minute spurt. Not sure if it was the fresh legs from sitting the first half or if the suspension lit a spark under him. Hope we continue to see that.
Bad: - Free throw shooting, outside of Botz and Sykes, was atrocious. Lowe and Fouse were the main culprits, missing 4 and 5 respectively, but others like Love, Mays, and Francis can't be splitting their trips to the line. I don't expect Uwadiae to make his. - Greg Mays' jump shot. What happened? Last year it was a consistent weapon and it has all but non-existent thus far. He hit a 15-footer from the baseline in the second half and I was hopeful it would get him going, and then he hit the corner of the backboard from the same spot on his next attempt. He's going to have to figure it out if this team is going to meet our expectations. - The technical assessed to Uwadiae for hanging on the rim. As a former official I tend to give referees the benefit of the doubt, but that T for hanging on the rim was ticky-tack at best. I think they felt control of the game slipping away and they used it to gain some if it back, because there have been more egregious violations of hanging on the rim that have gone uncalled.
Ugly: - I thought it was a pretty ugly game in general. Morehead turned it into a pretty physical affair, committing hard fouls every time the Phoenix penetrated. Reminded a little bit of a Chicago State game either last year or two years ago where GB shot 40-50 FTs. - The second half offense looked disjointed down the stretch. Wasn't much of a flow and Sykes, to his credit, was doing a lot of directing people around and calling for guys to come screen.
Wardle didn't seem to be happy with the team's focus leading up to this game and I think that showed. Some guys seemed pretty out of it. Not to mention, McKinnie and Francis sitting the first half after being late to shoot-around. Hopefully it was just balancing finals week and playing ball, because this is the first instance I can recall of the team not having a long stretch off for exams. Maybe a little time away from GB will help them focus.

I watched the game on ASN. I thought the overall production was very good, I am very happy they are partnering with the Horizon League. When Hendo received his T it was for smack talking, when he was walking to the free throw line he leaned into a MSU players ear and said something. Kind of lame.
Otherwise I agree with what gbalum2007 wrote.
My other comment is his game shows to me why GB will still be good after Sykes is gone. This game was all about defensive effort. They came out and overwhelmed another appointment to start the game. FGCU and ECU had the same issue, they couldn't score for a long time. GB had a double digit lead pretty early and that was pretty much the game.
On to Las Vegas.

Well, that makes more sense than hanging on the rim. Thanks for the info.

Green Bay beat Morehead State by the exact same margin Ohio State did last weekend. GB shut down another strong 3 point shooting team again. I was skeptical that this team would be as good defensively without Alec Brown swatting away shots in the middle. However, they're even better, because the perimeter defense is greatly improved.
Carrington Love continues his recent run of looking like a true PG and creating shots for his teammates. Alphonzo McKinnie is getting his springs back after playing 1 legged earlier in the year. Jordan Fouse is finishing his shots around the basket, a former weakness of his.
The Carrington Love pass off the back board to McKinnie in a half court set is something I had never seen before, and made Sportcenters Top 10 Plays of the Day.
