Jerry Palm has posted his 1st Bracketology of the year. The Green Bay Phoenix are an 8 seed in the Midwest. The opponent? Old friend Cal, of course. I was surprised by an 8, but right now they definitely deserve an at-large caliber seed.

I just saw this.....I had a laugh at the potential of a 1994 rematch. First things first however.....Let's win the HL, not get anyone hurt, and NOT lose at home to a #6 seed. Since UWM won't be eligible this year for the HL tourney, or ANY tourney for that matter (due to APR scores), it won't be them providing the upset.

Joe Lunardi just tweeted his latest 1-68. He has Green Bay up to 44. That's the top of the 11 seeds. Nice.

Lunardi has his first bracketology on ESPN.com and he doesn't have Green Bay because they're not first in the conference right now. He has Cleveland State in (8-8, 2-0) as a 15-seed. GB is not listed in his next eight out. espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/bracketology

I think GB can still get in as an at large if they have no more than 3 conference losses during the season and get to the finals of the conference championship. Also, I think it would help if schools like UC-Irvine and Georgia State end up winning their conferences and/or conference tournaments. If those schools don't do well from this point forward, those losses will be a major black mark against UWGB who already is in a mid-tier conference and not one of the biggies.
Any more than 3 regular season conference losses and I don't think people will consider GB strong enough for the field as an at large, particularly if they can't get to the conference tourney finals. As I say, the one hope would be that the schools they lost to all end up either making the tournament or winning their conferences.
It sucks that you have to be nearly perfect as a mid-major to make it in as an at large, but it seems like every year, it is harder and harder for the mid-majors to make it as the "Big 5" conferences are the ones truly in control and the ones that will fight to make sure that every team in their conference finds a way to make it in no matter how mediocre their squads may be.

At large is basically out the window unless they go 14-16 games in league play and . They do not have a top 75 win and have not gotten help from the teams they beat out of league. With there RPI at 53 right now, even winning 15 conference games would unlikely improve the RPI higher than maybe mid 40s. Miami isn't going to be a good enough marquee win.

Green Bay went 14-2 last year. Going 15-1 would have got them in last year and will get them in this year. That will be tough, but not at all impossible. At least half of the conference competition is really poor, worse than usual. Wright State is one of the better teams, and we just beat them by 24. Valpo is very good, but a split with them will be enough if the Nix can avoid upsets.

I think both Georgia State and Miami have the potential to be top 75 wins (Miami's RPI will rise with ACC Opposition). Would have been nice had they held on against Virginia on Saturday. Georgia State should remain pretty strong throughout their conference season. At the very least, that'll be a Top 100 win (and loss). The UC-Irvine game was an at-large killer. I don't know where they're at now, but their RPI is only going to fall.
All that being said, no worse than 14-2 (with two losses coming on the road against good HL teams). That's the only way they'd get an at large.

Georgia State lost Monday night at home to Texas State. Evansville lost at home tonight to Loyola-Chicago. I agree with phoenix87, we don't have a good enough marquee win. Anything more than 1 loss during the conference season probably would kill any chance of an at-large. Good link here: insider.espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/rpi/_/teamId/2739
