Ripon @ Green Bay Where: The Resch Center When: 10/30 7:00
The start of the season is finally here. Interesting that this game is at the Resch Center, as past exhibition games were at the Kress Center.
Ripon may be a D3 team but they do have 1 division 1 player. 6'3" G Hayden Hoerdeman transferred from Western Michigan to Ripon for his final season to play with his younger brother Elliot. He joins a team coming off a solid 15-9 season. However, they lack the size needed to face a team as big as Green Bay.
The good thing about exhibition games is getting to see the younger. I'm looking forward players farther down the rotation. I especially want to see more of big Hendo and Daeshon Francis.

Will this game be available online (gbphoenix.com, hln or espn3)? I didn't see a link anywhere but then again I didn't look that hard either.

I tuned in late to the radio broadcast, where was Francis?
In general it seems like they didn't play that well but if Mr. Sykes would have wanted to bury Ripon he probably could have from the start instead of just in the second half.
It sounded like Hendo made a few plays.
Did anyone actually go to the game?

It sounded like Hendo made a few plays. Did anyone actually go to the game? Yes. Sykes avoided going into harms way, they went deep into the bench, and the team still took care of business. Francis seems to have an ankle injury. Khalil Small showed off his strength and explosiveness. He'll be a major asset as a defender. He finished with 8 rebounds. McKinnie scored easily in the post. Hendo had tough match ups against a team that pretty much played all perimeter players all game. He still did some good things, but his shot blocking was neutralized. Ripon played hard and had a lot of skill. Their D1 transfer did absolutely nothing, but sophomore Ty Sabin is really impressive and could easily play up a level or 2. I think the team gains more playing against skilled D3 teams like Ripon and St. Norbert than they do against many of the D2 opponents. Wardle worked to challenge the players and went with odd lineups at times to do so. For one stretch the team went with Love, Fouse, McKinnie, Kanter, and Hendo.

Small with 8 rebounds from the guard spot is unreal. The freshman class has some interesting pieces that i hope make for LAK (Life after Keifer) successful.

GB shot out to a quick 8-0 lead in the first half and then started rotating players. Regardless of who was out there they struggled for the last 12 minutes of the first half on defense, especially perimeter defense. Keifer could have scored as many as he wanted to against these guys but got everyone involved and had ten assists. McKinnie and Small stood out as guys who had solid games. Small will battle for rotation minutes and could pass over Findlay for backup sg minutes.

I was at the game and was also impressed with Small. He reminds me of a very strong guard from Butler who always seemed to be able to get to the basket when needed to. Small has not shown a lot of offense but I expect it will just take time and opportunity. Sykes was as usual the best player on the floor, I think that will be true even when they play Wisconsin in November.

I wouldn't get ahead of ourselves here, but I think he was referring to Shelvin Mack

Actually the guy I was thinking of was Roosevelt Jones listed as a 6'4" 227# forward. I believe he missed a year because of an injury. Undersized as a forward but he goes to the basket hard and is an excellent rebounder.
