Will the Phoenix have another player drafted today? It would be a great addition to their history. I like Alec's chances. He's worked out for a group of teams that own half of the 2nd round picks, and shot the ball well in workouts. I'd prefer he's drafted by a central division team, and both Chicago and Cleveland worked him out and have multiple 2nd round picks. Really interesting draft this year, with the local Bucks at #2, and some really intriguing players at the top. While Jabari Parker is considered the safe pick and Wiggins is considered the riskier player with upside, I think it's the opposite.
IMO, Wiggins has a high floor simply because he will be a lock down defender against 2s and 3s, and will score efficiently in transition, half court cuts, and corner 3s. Will he ever develop into a creative playermaker? I don't know, but he'll need to to become a superstar.
Parker now is a player that can shoot over SFs, which allows him to be a big scorer. He has great size, he's actually the exact same length and bulk as Kevin Love. He'll struggle mightily to defend SFs because of his lack of quickness. His best chance at stardom is as a pick-and-roll PF in the Karl Malone mold, a long with having a better chance to create off the dribble against slower defenders. Parker could be a massive scorer as a PF, and would hold up better defensively as the League goes away from post scoring PFs. As a SF, he's simply a thicker Glenn Rice.
The wildcard is Dante Exum, a 6'6" penetrating guard who's extremely inexperienced versus quality competition, but might be the half-court playmaker everyone wants to revolve their offense around.
This should be fun.

I'm hoping that a team like the Spurs, OKC, Clippers, or Pacers drafts Alec. He would have a much better shot of making a bad team, but I think he could be a serious threat on a good team with athletic slashers. He can draw his defender out and protect the elite players. I see him in a Rik Smits sort of role (though he'll be a defensive liability his first year or two).

Yes Alec went from the GB Phoenix to the Phoenix Suns. Congrats it sounds like at least 3 teams had interest in him but Phoenix got him. I think he can be a good role player in the NBA. Thanks for all the great times in GB.

I think Phoenix is a great fit for Alec. For the last few years they have had Channing Frye as a stretch big man taking 4 or 5 three pointers a game and averaging 11 points per game. I think Frye opted out of his contract with Phoenix so if he doesn't come back there is an open window for Alec.
It was nice for the league to honor the big guy from Baylor who won't be able to play due to his health. I thought it was nice that ESPN showed it and made a big deal out of him getting his name called and how guys dream of that. Then of course the mother ship that is ESPN didn't show several picks in round 2 so I guess it wasn't as important for them to show or acknowledge Alec Brown's dream.
As for the Bucks they played it safe and took Parker. Then they took a clone of Parker with the 31st pick and another forward after that. I don't think they need 3 forwards, they need guards. I am not sure that Giannis and Jabari can play together. I would have liked to see them wheel and deal to get another high pick and get a guard. I like what Orlando did, getting Gordon and Payton. I am not convinced that Doug McDermott will be a good NBA player so I am not sure I like what the Bulls did.

Nice artice in the Milwaukee JS today.
There aren't a lot of pure shooters in the NBA who stand 7-foot-1.
Alec Brown's ability to knock down three-pointers intrigued the Phoenix Suns enough that they selected the recent UW-Green Bay graduate in the second round of the NBA draft Thursday night. Brown was the 50th pick overall.
At the NBA draft combine in May, Brown led all participants from beyond the three-point line, making 18 of 25 shots.
"I think he's got a specialty in the NBA and I think that's important," said UWGB coach Brian Wardle. "His specialty is that he can shoot the ball at 7-1 and he can run the floor. His specialty, his equalizer, is his ability to make NBA threes.
"I think he's a guy the Suns felt was the best perimeter-shooting big man in the draft. Alec is a pure shooter at 7-1. He's not a volume shooter who needs a lot of reps and touches. He's a pure shooter with a quick release and it always looks like it's going in."
Brown said he "didn't even know if I was going to be able to start" when he joined Wardle's first recruiting class at UWGB. He went on to start 125 games at center for the Phoenix and was a three-time all-Horizon League performer.
As a senior in 2013-'14, Brown averaged 15.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.1 blocks per game and helped Green Bay to a 24-7 overall record and the Horizon League regular-season title. He made 42 of 100 three-pointers.
For his career, he totaled 1,678 points, 800 rebounds and a school-record 309 blocks and shot 40% from beyond the arc (78 of 195).
"Alec is an elite shooter at 7-foot-plus," said Ryan McDonough, the Suns' general manager. "We feel like he will be a very good fit for our team with our style."
Brown will turn 22 on July 23. His agent is Bill Duffy. He measured 7-11/4 with shoes and weighed 231 pounds at the combine. His vertical jump was 30 inches.
"I'm just blessed to have been drafted by the Phoenix Suns, and I'm excited to be a part of an organization where I am a good fit and have a great chance to make an impact," Brown said in a news release.
Wardle said another plus for Brown was his durability. The native of Winona, Minn., started 125 of 126 games for the Phoenix, missing only one game last season with a left shoulder injury and playing in pain down the stretch.
"He's very durable at 7-1," Wardle said. "I think a lot of NBA teams noticed that. He played injured, he played in pain with that left shoulder for his team and our program and we'll never forget that.
"That's all part of NBA life. I think a lot of scouts noticed that he played and was productive with basically one arm."
Brown became the fifth UWGB player to be drafted, joining Tom Anderson (1978), Ron Ripley (1979), Tony Bennett (1992) and Jeff Nordgaard (1996).
"Alec wanted to get his game better every year and he bought into the work and the expectations," Wardle said. "Now, there's a lot more work to do. He needs to get stronger in the lower body and he needs to work on his rebounding.
"But it's so hard to get your name called on draft night, and he is one of 60 who did. Obviously, it was great to hear his name called for Alec, for his family, for our program and for the Horizon League."

Read on twitter that Alec scored 8 ponts and hit two more 3 pointers last night which makes him 4of 5 of 3's in two NBA D Leage games. Also, in the first game he had 5 blocks.
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Winona Senior High School graduate Alec Brown had a strong second half Thursday night, sparking the Bakersfield Jam to a 118-112 victory over Iowa his second game in the NBA Developmental League.
Brown, a 7-foot-1 center, had eight points — all in the second half — on 3-for-7 shooting and four rebounds in 24 minutes. He played 18 minutes in the second half and hit two 3-pointers in a key stretch as Bakersfield rallied from a nine-point fourth-quarter deficit. He also had a steal.
Brown scored six points in his D-League debut on Tuesday. He's 4 of 5 on 3-pointers in two games.

Big Al's opportunity with Phoenix just opened up when the Suns dealt Miles Plumlee. Brown fits the Suns offense perfectly. I'd guess he doesn't begin with the Suns until next year, but the Suns willingness to deal Plumlee and not trade for any other young bigs is a vote of confidence in Alec Brown.
