Pat Birt has left UIC and Bryn Forbes has left CSU. Those are two of the better young players in the league. GB can't rest on what is happening to other teams but there is no way those guys leaving is bad for GB's title chances. Agreed. Green Bay now returns far and away the highest percentage of its production. Hopefully throw a healthy McKinnie into that mix and this team could/should improve on a 14-2 conference season.

Who is the most important player aside from Sykes this year? Gotta be Fouse, right? Sent from my SCH-R970 using proboards Interesting question. I have to agree with GBPhoenix1, it has to be Zo McKinnie. A healthy McKinnie might be the 2nd best player in the conference, and yet most of the leagues fans and media don't even acknowledge his existance. If you seen him before the injury or talk to people who've seen him practice, they'll all tell you he's something special. His ability to score in transition, off the drive, in the post, and from long range, combined with his rebounding and defense, could make him one of the most well rounded players in Phoenix history if his knee allows it.

Are there any concerns from the team that McKinnie's knee will be a lingering issue? I was hoping with a full off season he could build it back up to 100%. To me it was obvious he wasn't even close last season. I saw a number of his dunks get blocked this year because he couldn't explode to the hoop. If he is healthy I really expect him to be a stud and to the rest of the league an unexpected difference maker.

Perhaps a precautionary move, or as others have suggested, still not 100%?

It looks like the Phoenix will be adding a local walk-on. I won't announce anything until they do, but he's a son of former Phoenix basketball players, and he has some talent too. Grew a few inches before his senior year and had a very good season. Shot the 3 very well and had a few dunks.

I assume it was a typo when you typed players plural.

The link works, and IMO Commissioner did a phenomanal job. I still think everyone is underrating Alphonso McKinnie, but that will work itself out.

People are underrating McKinnie because he's an unknown to most of us. I saw a couple EIU games, I know he's legit.
Speaking of season previews,

Hey blackpanthermke.......Thanks for sharing the link; I was LMAO!!!!! Looking forward to the satirical HL previews. I'm wondering when someone who hasn't been with this board as long as some of us will take the upcoming preview a little TOO seriously and will be putting out a bounty for your head because they were insulted for insulting their favorite team.

I think it's going to be a blast. The running joke with Milwaukee fans on Facebook is that I'll have to write three times the material to cover everything at home.

I think the problems with McKinnie being underrated are: 1) His stats at Eastern Illinois were against a lower level of competition. His two best games were against Maine. 2) His stats after the injury last year were low. IMHO, it seems like he was "rushed" back to play last year. Any idea why? To your point, Nick Minnerath came back from a similar injury and was 1st team HL. As I was looking up the Minnerath poll, it appears that the last two HL "preseason" awards were sent on Oct 9 & 16. So, we only should have to wait a few more weeks. I'm sure 1st team will be Sykes, Howard Jr, Petros, and Grady (awesome team). I'm not even sure who the 5th player would be (Tiby?). Probably would have been Forbes. But seems they like to go with upperclassman.

Looking at McKinnie's stats is really pointless on an aggregate basis. He had two games when he eased back into the lineup and had 6 minutes or less. He ended with a 5 game stretch where he did play double digit minutes. He averaged 7 points but played way less minutes than he did at EIU. Also, he made 5 three pointers in these games and shot 40% from deep. That is coming from a guy who didn't make, let alone attempt a 3 pointer at EIU.
I think he did rush back. He played two years at EIU, sat one at GB and only had 2 years to play at GB. So I think he came back to try and play as the season would have most likely been lost. It was noticeable that a guy who was dunking like crazy at EIU and in practice for GB had several dunks blocked in games at GB because he didn't seem to be able to explode to the hoop.
If his knee is healthy fans are going to see a run and jump athlete who has added a fairly accurate 3 pointer. I have very high hopes for him in GB this year.

The Phoenix may be adding a walk-on from today's tryouts. A 4 year varsity player from a small school in the region. It would be a cool story if it happens.
