The interesting news is that Josh Humphrey is going to graduate after the 2014-15 season and not play the 15-16 season with GB. I will be curious to see if he moves on for that last season or if ends up going into the work force. He seems like a good representative of the program and a guy who gets along with the rest of team. That will also be a big recruiting opportunity with 5 scholarships to fill for 15-16. It is too bad some of the top regional talent is starting to get serious attention from MU and UW.

I was kind of expecting to hear that Humphrey would be moving on after this year. He's just had so many injuries, including a re-occuring shoulder issue, that have robbed him of any opportunity to develop his game. Cool he's going to tough it out this year though. He makes big contributions without scoring points. Great teams need glue guys.

The big news here is no transfers. That is incredibly rare in this era of college basketball.
I remember being called naive for not being worried when some D2 and D3 caliber players transferred out in the past. It seems like those days were years ago. It's part of the game, but not this offseason. It's great to have a tight core of the team. Big things ahead.

Playing at the division one level for a student/athlete is not easy. The time demands athletically and academically are at another level. It's something that won't work unless the student/athlete and the parents buy into it. Wardle and his staff are doing a better job of finding those kind of scholarship candidates.

Very few of Wardles scholarship recruits have transferred. A majority of the transfers have been holdovers from the Kowalczyk era, a long with a few walk-ons. Unless I'm missing someone, Wardle recruits who transferred were Aaron Armstead, Nick Arenz, and Sultan Muhammad. Green Bay honored a scholarship offer to Arenz after a major knee injury while other programs disappeared. It gave him a year of D1 ball even though he was the same after the injury. It was an honorable thing, but never covered by the media as the then GBPG beat writer was busy creating a witch hunt rather than reporting the actual news. I do wish we'd had 1 more transfer, everyone here would have been better off if Cougill would have left.

Sent from my SCH-R970 using proboards It will be of no impact, but you had 1 so far, Connor Weas. I haven't seen Milwaukee announce a roster yet. Are they planning on filling their scholarship openings? It seems awfully late to still have 2 openings. The HL has seen some major transfers, including Pat Birt, and we're still waiting on word of Bryn Forbes. YSU lost a starter in Ryan Weber.

I still feel a junior and senior dominated rotation can beat out talent. This year we got that upper classmen team. When I say this I'm comparing Green Bay to their team last year. I also think the combination of many players coming back and getting better could potentially be greater than losing one great player. I have seen it happen on teams at the college level in the past and seeing Green Bay going on to an even greater regular season this year. I know I said this before but if our new center can be like that eastern Michigan center was against us last year, I wouldn't want to play Green Bay. Plus I don't think we have seen McKinnie at full strength yet and will see that this year. Fouse needs to develop touch around the hoop to complete his game. and I really like the upside of Kenneth Lowe.

If McKinnie can stay healthy he could be that special thing that puts them over the top. I agree this could be a very special team next year if we stay healthy.

Who is the most important player aside from Sykes this year? Gotta be Fouse, right?

I don't see Fouse suddenly becoming the second best offensive player on the team. I think Mays, McKinnie and probably Love will be ahead of him on that end of the floor. Plus we don't know how big of jump we can expect from Lowe/Findlay or if Francis/Small are impact freshman. By the same token I don't see any of those guys stepping up and becoming as good of a defender as Fouse is. I think the guy that will catch most of the league off guard is McKinnie. I think a healthy McKinnie is an all conference type player. I think fans will see his weaker stats and that he is a returning senior and over look him. I thought he showed a lot of game and made a nice impact despite looking really rusty with a bad knee.

Fouse is the key to the killer zone defense the Nix play. Because of that I'd put him as the second most important player on the team. That said -- a second consistent offense player will make Sykes that much, more effective in the coming season. That player could be McKinnie or May. If both find consistency on offense watch out. Getting back to defense -- if Udawiea can be at a minimum a shot blocking presence that would be a big plus.
I agree with those who think the 14-15 team can be deeper and better than last season's Nix team.

Fouse is the second most clutch player on the team. In a tight game fouse always seems to come up with the steal, rebound, block that we need. Even with working on a mid range game I'd be satisfied with something eight feet in. He can do so many things without scoring and when he did score it was a huge bonus.

Pat Birt has left UIC and Bryn Forbes has left CSU. Those are two of the better young players in the league. GB can't rest on what is happening to other teams but there is no way those guys leaving is bad for GB's title chances.
