Scott Venci tweets: Although nothing has been signed, GB men's basketball team expected to play home-and-home series against Belmont. Would start around 2017. The Horizon League also announced today that Belmont is joining the league as an affiliate member for mens soccer only. They did agree to scheduling agreements for mens basketball, however: Over the next four years, Belmont will play six league members in men’s basketball home-and-home games as part of the non-conference scheduling agreement.www.horizonleague.org/blog/belmont-university-to-join-horizon-league-as-affiliate-member.htmlHopefully this paves the way for them to become full-time members

If the HL gave away their leverage w/Belmont, men's soccer, and only gained some men's hoops games for a few years I would consider that kind of weak. However, I am going to give LeCrone the benefit of the doubt and suggest that a full membership is not that far behind. Right now the HL doesn't have enough southern members or candidates to entice Belmont. Yet they did agree to some travel within the league for hoops. I would guess that once the HL lands one of Evansville, Murray State, Lipscomb or Morehead State then they will add NKU and be at 12 members with Belmont. I think this will be done well before the four year scheduling agreement with men's hoops is complete.

If you don't go to all the conference message boards, you should. Big DWSU has a wicked plan to get Murray State, Belmont and NKU into the conference

The last post I made on the HL message board I said I didn't see the HL being able to add Murray State and NKU because we will try to add at least 2 private schools to keep Detroit and Valpo happy. I was talking about your response when I said add NKU. And why do we need to placate Detroit? Valpo had no problem with Oakland. Sent from my SCH-R970 using proboards

I don't see Murray St. even being in the picture since they have a football program in the OVC. Would they still compete in the OVC in football if they did leave for the HL??.....I would think NKU, and then Belmont and Lipscomb as they are both located in Nashville and don't have football programs.

What does adding NKU, Lipscomb, and Belmont do for the HL? Any benefit we gain from adding Belmont is shot to hell by adding the other 2. There is no reason to expand beyond where we are now unless it gives the conference a chance to become a multi-bid conference. So with that being said, it appears either the HL goes extremely hard to land Evansville and Murray State from the south or...the nine teams that already make up the Horizon League elevate themselves to the level of getting into the NCAA Dance AND NIT regularly beginning this upcoming season. Doing that strengthens the league and then can allow the HL to invite a Lipscomb, NKU or Robert Morris because the Horizon would have built itself from within and will then be a top ten, relevant conference.
