Never really know what to expect in rivalry games. Hopefully there will be a decent contingent of GB supporters there. I haven't been to the Cell since the 2009 game, and that turned out pretty well. I will be attending on Saturday night so hopefully we will get a repeat of this: ;D ;D I wrote a little preview over on the fan site, give it a read if you'd like. In my pre-season predictions I had this one penciled in as a loss, but the 'Nix have been playing really well lately, so who knows what will happen. It should be a good game The game is on Time Warner Sports in Wisconsin along with the Horizon League Network.

Here's a preview by Rob Demovsky and a preview with video by Andrew Gavin. Even though I'm guessing these two teams split the series again this year, I'm very excited for tonight's match-up. It's the ultimate rivalry. Right versus wrong, good versus evil. The program with 0 off the court incidents and a 100% graduation rate versus the program known for non-stop off the court issues and academic suspensions. A PG (Kiefer Sykes) with a large tattoo on his inner arms that reads "Family First" versus a PG (Kaylon Williams) with a tattoo so obscene he is forced to wear bandage over it during games. It's small school, minimum budget versus big school, bloated budget. A school who's greatest coach was the legendary yet humble Dick Bennett, versus the school who's only success came under massive self promoter and multi-time convicted cheater, Bruce Pearl. It's just very easy to be a Phoenix fan, and I don't know how anyone can support the Panthers. Should be a great game tonight, I expect it to go down to the wire. Hopefully we can pull a minor upset.

I sense a total team effort resulting in an impressive road win tonight. Sykes will pester an already overworked Kaylon Williams into a rough game, and our emerging long range shooting accuracy continues.
Go Phoenix!

Hours after it's over, I'm still sick. Evil wins round 1.

If soul crushing losses build character then this team has enough character for the next 4 years. So excited for what the next couple of years have to offer for this young team

Here's Andrew Gavin's recap. I'm not going to link to Rob Demovsky's game story because I thought it was misleading. He seems to imply Sykes blew the defense for the final basket, and doesn't once mention the real culprit, Brennan Cougill. When Wardle says "We froze on the final play" he is referring to Cougs without throwing him under the bus. The Phoenix had been switching on all screens in the final minutes, but Cougs not only doesn't switch on the final screen, he didn't even hedge. You always, always, hedge. Sykes goes under the screen because he expecting a switch, and he would then defend Kelm. He notices Cougill is just froze in place doing nothing, and jumps out at Williams too late. Very disappointing that a player as instinctive as Cougill has such a costly brain cramp. What really stinks is that Williams hit the shot. He's a poor 3 point shooter. We'll beat this team at home, as the game won't come down to a final shot. Kiefer Sykes had a monster game, and is becoming a star. GB outplayed UWM in every facet except getting to the free throw line. I'm guessing we get to the line more than 8 times on our home court, especially considering how many shots in the paint we took.

Hours after it's over, I'm still sick. That pretty much sums it up for me as well. Just too many mistakes in the end. Sykes missing the front end of the bonus. Not being able to get an inbounds play on the last offensive possession. Nobody guarding Williams. Williams hitting that shot hurts the most. He is a good player but something about him irks me. All in all a nice performance by Sykes again, that guy has totally won me over. He no longer plays because of what he might be, he gets minutes because he is a stud! Speaking of Sykes that technical was pretty weak. Just another thing to cost them the game. Jeter went nuts on an official during a timeout after a questionable call, it was 10x worse that what sykes did yet no call. This was after the Sykes t so the precedent had been set. Very annoying.

A school who's greatest coach was the legendary yet humble Dick Bennett, versus the school who's only success came under massive self promoter and multi-time convicted cheater, Bruce Pearl. It's just very easy to be a Phoenix fan, and I don't know how anyone can support the Panthers. I don't know what kind of person you are, but I can tell you that you have an extremely distorted view of our city and our program. You have never met Kaylon Williams, you have never talked to him or spent time with him, so to question his character is about as smart as getting Alec Brown touches on 25% of possessions. I suggest you talk to Brian Wardle and get your story straight about Milwaukee. Are we rivals? Absolutely. But you come off as a huge fool with talk like this; no wonder that despite having a couple thousand fans at every game, only a handful of people post on this board. With the departure of characters like Bruce Pearl and Tod Kowalczyk, several members of the Phoenix community and myself have been hoping to bring a more friendly, playful future to the rivalry. But if you want to continue to foster bad blood, it will never be the kind of rivalry it should be. This rivalry should be all about celebrating the diversity and culture of the state of Wisconsin, but you instead plow on with the word vomit. Go ahead and blast me for saying that, I don't care. This is your board and you're free to speak like an idiot if you like. The Green Bay fans, coaches and players I like to talk to are available to me outside of this forum (even though a couple are members here), so you won't see me responding to whatever gutter trash you come back with. As for the game itself, this is what I know: Referees tend to have a lot more leeway with coaches than they do with players. This is why you tend to see guys like Jeter or Buzz Williams get very animated without drawing technicals. There are coaches like this across the country, just as there are coaches who don't act as animated; it's a style of coaching. So when Sykes decides to taunt the crowd with words and salutes following an emphatic dunk, you can see where the referee felt his actions warranted a technical. It was an incredibly freshman mistake by a player who was playing nothing like a freshman. I'll say this about Kiefer Sykes - you have a hell of a player for the next three years. He's made the loss of Perine and Fletcher MUCH easier to withstand. Has Alec Brown gotten thinner this past offseason? I know that he's always been thin, but I could have sworn he was a Brian Wardle, in my eyes, is a star on the rise. Something I've notice from Brian and Buzz that I never saw from Kowalczyk and Crean is that both Brian and Buzz get their players to put in the MAXIMUM effort and they fight hard on every possession. That's how Green Bay was able to make up the talent gap. Once GB has superior talent in the conference, look out. One last thing on Sykes - I didn't realize it until this game, but he wears #24. Andrew Gavin got a kick out of this idea, so I'll bring it on here: It is surprising to me that it hasn't occurred to any of you that a guy named Kiefer wearing #24 should carry the nickname "Jack Bauer."

Uncalled for response. Certainly will not make for better feelings with name calling. The facts speak for themselves. Drunk driving, evading Police and fleeing the scene. Not character builders but hopefully he's learned from his mistake. You are right we don't know him, just what we read in the Milwaukee paper.

Instead of trying to defend his program, blackpanthermke attepts to slander the messenger. Tough to defend the integrity of the UWM program in a week where they get a commitment from JC PG Jordan Aaron, a player who was kicked off his team and out of school last week.
