It’s funny he is complaining on the horizon being a one bid league. It doesn’t help the leagues case much when his squad schedules 4 non-division one schools. He also forgot that when the HL was a borderline 2-bid league it was usually because Butler lost in the conference tourney and got an at-large. Gone are the days when we had Butler, Valpo, UIC, and Loyola in the conference, and replaced with IPFW, IUPUI, RMU, and NKU. IPFW is ok, RMU and IUPUI have been bottom 1/3 teams in the HL since they joined, and only NKU is a solid program; essentially what Valpo used to be when they were in the HL. The strength of the HL has weakened drastically the last 8-10 years. As a whole we as a conference need to schedule better and limit yourself to 1 D2 team. No more D3 or NAIA games in your regular season schedule. I’d rather have more road games versus D1 schools than playing bad lower level schools to pad the record.

Teams don't play D2s to pad their record, they do it to pay the bills. To sell sponsorship, they need some home games. It's a tough business, especially when high majors never play on the road anymore.
The biggest thing that improves the league is hiring coaches like Wicks and Calhoun.

Winning creates interest. Neutral fans are more than likely going to show up for a team that has a winning record. YSU is doing exactly that.

I'm calling my shot, Preston Ruedinger is your HLMBB player of the week. He is really impressive in a low key way for this team. In that game to step up in that way, it just reminds you what these dudes are about.
Calhoun was rambling on there but he is right about GB is going to mop up at awards time.
Calhoun and Kampe have both made comments about GB getting Noah. I'd suggest they don't fully understand the greatest element of this team and the best part of Wicks coaching. Both of those guys have had their own high major transfers, they shouldn't be jealous that GB got Noah. They should be jealous that Wicks knows how to create a total team commitment to winning while upholding the standards that they set for themselves as a team. RMU has two high major transfers in their starting five and is in 9th place. GB has Noah and a bunch of other dudes that just do what it takes. YSU doesn't care enough about defense to deal with the unselfishness of GB.
What a win!

So many times have you watched the replay of Wonders game winner? I've run out of fingers and toes to count on.

BTW, how is Valpo doing right now……..😜 Oakland, UDM, and Cleveland State at times have taken advantage of transfers. They just have done less with them (except Dennis Gates at CSU; he parlayed that success at CSU for a Power 6 job). With the success by Coach Wicks (regardless of how this season ends up), how much attention does he get from other schools? Power 6 that is……If UW continues their slide under Guard and they fizzle out in the NCAAs, I think AD Chris McIntosh looks towards GB.

I find it hard to believe the badgers would hire Sundance after one year in gb. I think they would lean more towards a coach with more direct ties to Wisconsin.

I originally thought Wardle would be a possible candidate for that job, but after thinking about it, DePaul is basically in the same situation as Green Bay was in after last season. They’re the worst high major team in the country and they’re desperate for someone to boost their NIL funds. Obviously it would be risky to hire someone based off one good season, but it wouldn’t shock me if they showed interest in him after he took the worst team in the country to first place in the Horizon League.

Thinking about the future is exactly what derails magical seasons.
Green Bay got to the this point by not looking past today. The old saying is be where your feet are. Our collective feet should be getting ready to go toe to toe with NKU.

I like this answer…..Let’s hope McIntosh forgets about his BB team. I am a little concerned about DePaul and if they make a play for Wicks. But does a small town guy like Wicks even consider Chicago? Hope not.

So many of them were self created by beating defenders of the dribble. He's an absolute warrior with a blooming skill set.
