Last time I checked there were more than 1500 student/athletes in the basketball portal. I hadn't realized the percentage, 30% of players who will be unable to land with a D1 school. The biggest impact are those exiting mid and low level D1 schools. Think of the trickle down effect for D2, D3 and NAIA student/athletes. This is an interesting Twitter thread talking about the issue.
The instant eligibility transfer rule has also had a ripple effect making the portal a more attractive option than recruiting high school players. We've seen transfers helping programs like Marquette and Kansas State turn things around quickly.
It appears the new Nix coaching staff has done a good job understanding what is happening and identifying student/athletes and persuading them about the opportunities in Green Bay. The Merry-Go-Round stops and starts. When it does you want to have a seat. /photo/1
