No, am very well aware of it, and so is the administration at Creighton that guaranteed his 10 year contract. I have not forgotten his stint at Northern Iowa either.

I too think McDermott will be fine even after his kid leaves. Iowa State was a bomb out but Northern Iowa wasn't. I think of McDermott like I do Dan Monson. Went for the big time but wasn't good enough for that but is a solid mid major guy. Monson looks pretty good again at LBSU.
As for the original question about local versus winning. I think most fans would agree that it would be really special to win with local or at least state guys. I think most intelligent fans would agree the number of true local guys who can play and win D1 is limited. As AAU continues to grow and kids are in organized hoops at earlier ages then I think the number of local D1 kids will increase. However, Rome wasn't built in a day and neither is the college hoops talent pool of NE WI.
On a state versus out of state level, past history probably would say you get more flame outs from out of state but also some high ceiling players as well. I think guys like Schachtner, Tillema, Cotton, Berry and Perine served the program very well. Yet I would take my chances on a Munday/Farine/Segura/Morris/Koenig if it means GB can get more of Fletcher, Terry Evans, Evanchko, Lawrence, Mendiburu, Sykes and Brown.
It also doesn't help that the largest Metro area in the state has a public school system that struggles to educate kids. How many great hoops players never get discovered in Milwaukee because they don't make it in school? How many who do make it in high school can't get in to college?
I like that Wardle and crew have set up shop in WI and IL. I would like it if they could make up ground in MN and maybe IN and IA as well. If they come from somewhere else that works for this fan. The bottom line for me is I want GB to win with the best representatives of the university they can get.
