Noon tip time.
In the last game Antoine Davis and Josh McFolley went off on GB. Needless to say for GB to have any chance that can't happen.
I have checked in on several Detroit games this season. It is interesting to see what teams are doing to slow down Davis. Every team has face guarded Davis. GB did this with Pipes when they played in Detroit last month. Oakland was the first team that I watched face guard him and then double team him every time he touched the ball. In some of the more recent games teams have started to put longer players on him. Last night UWM had Abraham guard him. Josh McNair was in uniform last night for GB. If he can take the responsibility of slowing down Antoine Davis that would be great. I also think GB should do a little of what Oakland did with the double team. Eventually Detroit had some other guys make shots but for the most part they were down double digits because Davis couldn't get easy looks.
Here is a call to every man, woman and child. Head to the Resch Center on Saturday. Start out with the standing clap and get loud for the entire 40 minutes. This is most win. With Oakland and Detroit a half game behind GB, IUPUI at CSU and UIC playing YSU GB could come out of this weekend tied for 3rd and only a game back of 2nd or as low as tied for 7th and trailing IUPUI who would have a tie breaker. This game is huge. Let me write that again. THIS GAME IS HUGE!!

I think GB can officially clinch a HL Tournament spot with a win and a Milwaukee loss, though we actually probably want UWM to win in order to create a little more breathing room between us and Oakland.
Cleveland State was officially eliminated after their loss to UIC. I wonder if they're the first team in the country to be non-academically eliminated from the NCAA Tournament this season?

Huge win in front of a decent crowd! They really had to fight for this one but it was nice to see them pull away in the end.

What a fun game to be at. The gate was 2500 and change but sure felt more than that. Very disappointed to see the student section. Only like 10 students were in the section. The administration has to find a way to fix this.
The defense has picked up the past two games which is awesome to see. Have to carry this momentum to UIC and make a competitive game out of it. UIC is 11-3 at home this year while we are 3-11 on the road so what gives?
I am excited for the remaining 4 games but also very nervous. Can Linc Darner pull a rabbit out of his hat and get a good result on Friday on national TV? A win and it puts us basically two up on UIC since we own the tiebreaker.
Go Phoenix!

Very few students want to travel 20 minutes across town in the winter to watch a mediocre basketball team.

Yeah I know it’s tough. Just turn it into another party deck area but for the students. Put a beer stand back there and always serve 2 dollar beers, free popcorn, free soft drinks. Have to try something different right?

Have to try something different right? Not a bad idea. Or even just some more student giveaways or something. You’re right though, the school really needs to make an effort to get more students to the games. Only problem is that students get in for free, so there’s probably little motivation for the school/athletic department to do this.

Besides the beginning on each halves, this was a well played game. GB did a good job attacking the zone and finding open men. Sandy tried to do a little too much at times but made up for it with the plays he made down the stretch. I really like how they used him in the high post vs the zone. Good to see Jayquan bounce back with a big game and good to see Josh McNair back on the floor.
Oh how much fun it would be to sweep the Chicago/Indy trip and get the contenders at home to end the year- one at a time.

I would agree, other than the slow start causing the team to fight uphill in both halves this was a pretty solid game for GB.
In particular I thought they did a nice job on the glass. Sandy looked like Khalil Small and just hunted the ball down. I know he had 9 turnovers but some of his passes really weren't the passers error.
Also, they did a much better job of guarding Antoine Davis this game. The length of Kam and Josh did impact him. Kam really worked on that defensive end of the court. Davis seemed determined to get his and really cost his team with some poor choices.
It is little things that add up but in this game they didn't give up many if any home run errors. In game 1 @ Detroit Bell had a pass from the corner to the top that went for an dunk the other way. In this game he had the ball in the zone in the same exact spot and dribbled to a better angle. Yes the play itself wasn't major from Bell but as a team they did a much better job of making the smart play. They still played with tempo and scored plenty of points, it was just much smarter than the last game IMO.
Anyway, good win and good to see that the defense and rebounding didn't let the team down.
