If you are like me and busy getting ready for Christmas while also still feeling the effects of a tough stretch in the schedule then you can understand why no thread was started for this game yet. It turns out GB is back in action today at 4pm in a winnable MVC game @ Evansville.
Evansville has a new head coach in Walter McCarty who is from Evansville. Also Todd Licklichter and Matthew Graves coach there. That is a pretty good mid major staff.
Anyway, gone is the slow poke back door offense. In is an up tempo 3 point shooting offense. The Aces take and make a lot of 3's. Their leading scorer is a D3 grad transfer who isn't big but loads up a ton of shots with accuracy. If GB loses Feehan in transition I am going to have a meltdown. They have multiple guys who are willing to shoot 3's and most are making a good clip. I think 42% of the shots are coming from deep with a team shooting of 34% and 4 guys at 38% or better. You can see what GB is up against.
Conversely they aren't very big and are a decent team rebounding team as lots of guys are grabbing boards but they are -4 game on the glass. They have a 6'7" guy getting about 8 per game. Paging Manny Patterson, we need you to stay out of fouls trouble and control Harris.
It doesn't look like the Aces are great defensively like old Butler teams but they seem to understand the task at hand with RP40.
Evansville draws a nice crowd for a mid major. There should be 4k plus is a 10k building. Their fans are just waiting for good things, don't let them be a factor.
It will be a big missed opportunity if GB isn't wearing their black T-shirt jersey from last year. That was a trademark of the Aces back in the day and it would have been cool if both teams brought something like that out for this game.
Evansville is still coming together and has been losing closely lately on the road. At home they have some nice wins. I think this will be a challenge but a game GB can win. It is also a game GB needs to win to put the league on notice that GB is coming into conference play battle tested and ready to beat good teams home or away.
