Last Saturday was a big win. This Saturday will be a real test of maturity. Often young people can get swept up in the moment and lose focus. Hopefully with a week off they will be ready to get down to business at BGSU.
A few interesting things about BGSU:
If you were like me and thought Belmont had too many rebounds well GB will have to really be ready against a very big BGSU team. BGSU is +12 per game on the glass and in particular has done a lot of damage on the offensive boards. As a team 32% of the rebounds are offensive and they have almost a 2 to 1 advantage on the season over their opponents.
Beyond that their stats don’t scream great offensive team. Their team fg% isn’t great. Their ft% isn’t great. Their team 3ptfg% isn’t great. From beyond the arc, 2 guys account for 55% of their shots and they shoot 37% each from out there. So it looks like stopping those guys and letting others shoot might be a factor.
On defense they average about 3 blocks and 6 steals per game but not one player is dominating those categories for them.
They are averaging just under 1400 fans per game but the building is small so perhaps it could get loud in there. It is kind of an odd start time, right during the dinner hour so who knows what kind of turnout they will get.
Michael Huger is in his 4th year but hasn’t had a breakthrough season yet. I didn’t think he was that special the two times I have watched his team play GB.
I don’t know how many more games GB has left with BGSU but this seems like a series that MEG put together. I would hope they either received some cash from that Bill Frack event 2 years ago or are getting another home game next year with these guys.
As I mentioned earlier BGSU won an OT game at GB last year in the Resch. This GB team has to get revenge.
