After a week off the Phoenix are back in action on Wednesday night and making their season debut at the Resch Center against Northern Illinois.
First, this is a must win game. Period. NIU destroyed GB last year in DeKalb. That has to be rectified.
Second, it looks like Kam's little brother is on NIU. Seems like Kam needs to show him whats up!
Third, NIU has 3 guys who picked NIU that should be playing for GB. Bad choices should have consequences.
NIU is a tough team to figure out. They are 2-2 against D1 teams. They blew out Oakland and Oral Roberts. They lost a close game in 2OT to NKU. However, they lost to a pretty average looking James Madison.
They still seem to go with how Eugene German and Levi Bradley are going. Last year those guys were hard for GB to match up with. This year the team seems to be further along and has more length and athletic ability to keep up with them.
NIU has two bigger guys, Jaylen Key and Lacey James that also have some skill.
On the whole a nice test and a winnable game that needs to be won.

100 percent agree it is a must win game. First game at the Resch and it better be rocking! Green Bay has a HUGE chance to shoot up the new NCAA NET standings this week if they can get both of these wins.
Hope Linc goes with the same 5 that he has used in the past three games and McCloud stays hot.
Let’s go Phoenix!

NIU is a tough team to figure out. I would have thought with guys like German and Levi Bradley that they would have had a better record last year. Same thing early this year- Jackyl and Hyde type team. They blew us out in the opener but that might have been more about our team early last year than anything. GB is currently 23rd in pace while NIU is 333- which style wins out? haslametrics.com/ratings.php

What a bummer. The media department has become a joke over the past few years.

Few thoughts after attending the game last night
-Entertaining game that GB won by playing well in transition. NIU had a great guard in German, who killed us in both the half court and in transition. The rest of their team were guys not as equipped to run with us. Would have been nice to finish the game off a little earlier.
-Tank had his best game of the season and showed how versatile of a player he can be. Sandy continues to stuff the box score in many ways. McNair gave the Nix a lift off the bench. Cody Schwartz was out with an "upper body injury" according to Scott Venci. Does not appear to be serious.
- The "nest" section behind the North basket was empty. The saddest part was that they had two "bartenders" assigned to it that had already poured beer into pitchers and popcorn popped waiting for guest. Wouldn't one think that if zero people bought one of these tickets prior to the game that this might not go well? For $35 you can get a much better seat and a couple large beers, which should be more than enough to enjoy a basketball game.
-Speaking of attendance the official number was 1669. I believe only one time last year a game at the Resch had less than 2000. It didn't appear to look any emptier than a typical weekday game last year from my point of view though. One would think that a weekend game vs Belmont should draw 3k plus but that may even be asking too much.

Good win against a solid mid major opponent. I feel better about this team knowing there are several guys we can count on for double digit points each game. Free throw shooting needs to be cleaned up, but this has me feeling good about the Belmont game.

Two months from now this will look like a home win and we won't be thinking about how they blew an 8 point lead and almost blew a 15 point lead. However, right now it doesn't feel like the cleanest of wins. It makes you wonder what would have happened if NIU went to the pressure and zone earlier?
I like the nest but I agree that sounds like a sad sight. Anyone who buys there isn't doing it for the seat. They really need a few corporate parties to get people interested. It is meant to mix and mingle while a game is on in the background.
The conspiracy theorist in me says that they turned off the ESPN machine and mentioned it might not be back up for Saturday to sell more tickets to Saturday!
Anyway this was a good win to get. I would love to see this team get Kam on track with Cody back sooner rather than later. They have a lot of depth and that can only be a good thing.

What won’t get enough attention was the play of McNair. He was solid and should see more minutes in the future.

What won’t get enough attention was the play of McNair. He was solid and should see more minutes in the future. From what I heard on the radio, he was all around the ball. One thing I wonder about is why we don't use Parham. I know CB rails on his lack of defensive ability, but you cannot deny that he is a very talented scorer. When we are in droughts offensively, I would like to see him out there, rather than Crist, for example.
