The last two Wardle teams were very athletic and were able to overwhelm much of the league. Those teams couldn't shoot as well as this team can. I think fans around the league will be surprised by GB this year with a high level athletic ability and still make shots on the perimeter. If the rebounding improves they will be tough.
the higher ranked teams that beat us last year, probably shouldn't have beaten us.
* The 1st UIC game was a disaster as we laid an egg and they played well and used their length for getting hands on passes etc and we shot really bad
and made some really bad decision which I think comes with the RP40 system per say... The 2nd game against UIC we were up most of the game and
at times but double digits and again the decision and freedom caused us the game.
* The Wright State 2nd and tournament game we should have beaten them both times. In the 2nd game against Wright State we were up by 11 points
with around 11 minutes to go and bad decisions and bad shot selections that were not forced or under stress caused us to loose that lead and that game
along with hot shooting by Wright State at the right moment. If we make one shot, we win that game instead we went 0 for 7 or 0 for 8 as they chipped away.
Having so many young guys, I believe that want be the case this year especially since so many played valuable minutes last year.
Also, we lost Patterson in the 2nd game against Wright State right after the tip after he was playing really well and grabbing a lot of rebounds. Was just
coming off a double double I believe.
* The Northern Kentucky game, we were again in the game but had a bad shooting night the 1st game and the 2nd game, they killed us on the boards
as we had already lost Patterson to injury the prior game. They beat us on the boards by 12 or so rebounds and a lot of their rebounds on the offensive side, they scored
and on our offensive rebounds we didn't score.
I like our chances after only loosing Small (beast on boards as a guard and also positioned well for the rebounds when playing the 2 or 3 spot) and Jesperson shooting.
The combination of Pipes, Smith and McCloud can bridge the gap of loosing Small especially since Pipes started 28 or 33 games last year and ran point mostly
and was at one time on a 6 games streak of double digit games and a Freshman of the Week win too.
After seeing Schwartz in Puerto Rico 1st hand, I can say he is a better shooter than Jesperson but I'm not sure he will rebound as well as Jesperson did.
However, with the emergence of Chevalier and a healthy Patterson along with the hoops of Hemphil and a slimmer ready Bell, we should be good.
At least on paper I like what I see and in a couple weeks we will start to see the hype in action... RP40 in action with just a little less unforced turnovers
should turn into a 20+ win season...
