Mark is a very reliable... I would take that to the bank, unless something hits a snag.
Let the name game begin....

Wow, lucky for UWM, horrible move for Miss St.
Jeter's team was really going to struggle next year. Now it will be someone elses problem.
They should hire John Tharp.

I just dont understand the Rob Jeter fascination. Every year his name is always brought up in some job opening somewhere.

Mark Miller is now hedging on his tweet. From the Milwaukee Board:
"Tweeted it too fast.
Sources said he would get job, but now other sources are saying no contact has even been made yet.
Rule of thumb is always to have 3 sources. I had 2.
My mistake. But something could still develop. Stay tuned over next few days."
I would hate to see him go, I like our chances much better with him there. A good coach with his budget might generate a consistently good team.

It would be great for the conference to get a real coach at UWM, but I'm hoping they're stuck with Jeter just 1 more year.
I say this just because a few UWM fans act like he has done a great job, and they need to step back into reality. UW-Milwaukee won't finish in the top half of the conference next year, inexcusable for an 8th year coach at the conferences largest school with the largest recruiting budget.
If he leaves, Jon Tharp would be an awesome hire for them, but you know Bo Ryan will make a strong push for Greg Gard to get that job. Gard would keep them irrelevant.

I didn't realize that Rick Stansbury retired from MSU.....I must have been living under a rock.
As far as the potential replacement for Jeter at UWM (if Mark Miller's story is confirmed), I would think Tharp would be a better hire and better maximize the reources that UWM has, that is if he can recruit at near the level that RJ did. Despite his overall record at UWM, RJ did bring in some good players.
GB BB, not that I'm agreeing or disagreeing, why would hiring Greg Gard keep UWM irrelevant? One one hand, he (like RJ) was a career asisstant under Bo Ryan and never coached BB at any level, on the other hand, you can't deny Ryan's success in reviving the UWM program (where Gard was an assistant like RJ) and continuing the success of the UW program left by Dick Bennett.....But then again, just because you're an assistant to a great coach doesn't mean you'll have the same result when you're a HC (see Mike Heideman). Also, can he recruit like RJ did? I know Guard was a candidate for the GB job after TK left, does UWM have the same concerns about Guard's recruiting ability as GB did when he was interviewing?
With Tharp, you have a proven winning coach at the DIII (he was highly successful at Lawrence, which is VERY hard to have a successful program in almost ANY sport) and the DII level. I would be more scared as a rival fan if he ended up at UWM.....But since BU is leaving the HL after next season, the spot for being the HL 'Bell Cow' is now open for auditions; with the right HC and UWM's resources, they can be that next perrenial power in the HL.

I wouldn't call this a great hire by Miss State but I wouldn't call it terrible either. I think Rob Jeter is a below average high school recruiter, many of the best players have been transfers and JUCO's. I think Rob certainly hasn't had as much success as he is paid to have or is reflective of uwm's hoops budget. I don't think Rob Jeter is the type of coach to rally the students/alumni and get them buzzing or donating. Yet for all that I think that he isn't I do think he wins just not enough. There is no reason to think that he wouldn't go to Miss St and win more than he loses and in a consistent multibid league he might actually dance a few times. I just don't think Rob Jeter is the type of coach you hire if you are serious about winning big, but he might be the kind of guy you hire if you are interested in winning just enough.
Also, if I were uwm I would go with the retread route for the next coach. I like Doug Wojcik or Darrin Horn. Guys with upper midwest ties and who have won a little bit.

I think Bryce Drew could potentially get some better job offers after next season if he decides to stay. Valpo is going to be really, really good. They bring everybody back from their championship season this past year

Maroon and White Nation is now tweeting that Bryce Drew will be the next head coach at Mississippi State. I really didnt think that he would bolt this quickly. That should add some fire to the Miss S / Ole Miss rivalry ======= edit: Looks like for the second time this week Twitter has let us down, Bryce will not be the coach at MSU. Damn you, Twitter

Here's more on Drew and his decision. Smart move to stay on a loaded Valpo team that will be 1 of 3 outstanding teams in the HL next year.

When Bryce Drew was hired at Valpo I never thought he would leave. In my mind I pictured him as a guy who had made enough money playing pro basketball that he could probably afford to be a long term legacy coach at his alma mater.
As for Bryce Drew being a high major coach, I didn't see it this year. No doubt he had a good team and got the most out of them over the season. Yet in the times I did see a Valpo game I didn't exactly see a master tactician at the helm or a high major difference maker.
I would have to say it is a pretty big bet on himself to wait one more year and see what he can do with this team. I think Valpo caught the HL in a down year. I could easily see them slipping back to 3rd or 4th next year. If that happens I doubt any job upgrades are coming for Bryce. Could be like Rob Jeter and uwm from 2 years ago to this past season.
One thing I firmly believe is for most mid major coaches they have to strike when the iron is hot. The window to get a high major job is small and can easily close and may never reopen. I wonder if Bill Grier from San Diego in 2007, Ken McDonald from Western Kentucky or even Rob Jeter wish they would have cashed in right away? I also realize other guys have waited a year or two and still had it work out. When they are dealing with this kind of money I think it is wiser to go the Bruce Pearl/Keno Davis/Darrin Horn route and have the life changing cash in hand rather than wait like a Jim Larranaga, Brad Brownell or now John Groce did.
