From the Indianapolis Star: Butler wants to join the Atlantic 10 Conference in all sports except football, according to an ESPN report attributed to "multiple sources."
Bulldogs athletic director Barry Collier declined comment when asked about it last week, except to say "we've been good partners" with the Horizon League and all colleges "are watching the ever-changing landscape."
Conference realignment has been a major issue in college sports, with schools shifting to find long-term stability and financial advantages.
Temple is leaving the Atlantic 10 in 2013-14. It would be a step up in competition for Butler, currently a member of the Horizon League. The Atlantic 10 includes Midwestern schools Xavier, Dayton and St. Louis. Link

Uh oh.....
If I were BU, I would be doing the same thing.....Since the A-10 got 4 teams in the NCAA's after St. Bonnaventure won the A-10 Conference Tournament. Indianapolis would fit in with their geographical footprint.
Honestly, since the A-10 has 14 teams at the moment, and they will be losing Temple soon, losing another team (**cough** Fordham, since they've been the perennial doormat since they joined the A-10) would make sense for greater ease of scheduling with 12 teams (hypothetically).....But with conference re-alignment the way it is right now, having more teams than fewer would allow you some buffer room in the event other teams move on and move up the D1 conference food chain.....

The latest: Atlantic 10 has put out a public statement saying #Butler has not contacted conference about membership.
