Former DePere guard Jordan Poydras visited the Phoenix today. The 6'3" Poydras averaged 20 PPG playing PG for D2 Saint Cloud St as a junior. He'd have to sit out this season as a transfer and wants to finish his college career at the D1 level. A few other D1's are interested.

Two years of a scholarship for a guy who can only play one year seems risky coming up from D2.

I won't deny the talent and the fact that he was the scoring leader for SCSU, but unless he was immediately eligible as a graduate transfer, I'm puzzled by the offer. My only thinking is that Linc wants to make a title run after next season where he will now have 7 seniors going into '16-'17. This will put the roster out of balance after that season.
Did we have any chance of landing Matt Mooney? He would have made more sense in terms of shooting and roster balance.

Maybe Small or Findlay are not coming back in which case I could also understand this. Maybe Scott or Mooney aren't interested and Linc was planning to have a transfer sit anyway. Right now I am thinking one of Mooney, Scott or Poydras gets a spot and GB is waiting on one to commit.

I would like to see Small come back; He didn't get enough of a chance last season under BW. I never saw Findlay develop at least in game situations in his 2 years at GB; Small showed some flashes last season and could be in the mix in the rotation next season under Lin. If either of them are leaving, maybe GB signs another player? At this point, I would like to see Linc bank the scholarship; It would make our roster pretty thin at 11 (since we presumably have one transfer who would have to sit out), but with only the Brown brothers as the only true freshmen (as of now) coming in for '15-'16, we will have enough playing experience with 9 of the 11 active players on scholarship.
From a local angle, it would be good to see a local kid in Poydras come back to GB.

Looks like he has put on some muscle from his days at De Pere. I just don't get the move for GB taking a guy on scholarship for two year to only get one out of him. Just save the scholarship and build with core guys. This staff seems to be able to find JC guys and at least with those guys they are available right away. Liked his game as a Redbird though and glad to see he has done well at Saint Cloud.

Why would he have to sit out a year as he is transferring from a D2 school. I thought they could play right away. Then this move would make sense to me.

The following transfers mandatorily require sitting for a year: transferring to D1 football, D1 basketball, D1 men's ice hockey or D1 baseball.

He is a selfish player and teammate, would not want him at GB.
He is a PWO type of player, not scholarship worthy...esp for one year! Wasting two years scholarship on a kid that can play for one year, is a headcase, and has never played D1. Makes literally no sense!

Makes me wonder what the deal is. Linc's not down with that.

Scottie Pippin never played D1, I guess the Bulls shouldn't have drafted him. I've been told Poydras has really matured. He's also put a ton of work in on his game. He would be GB's best player next year. I'd be happy to have him if he chooses GB.

He would be GB's best player next year. I'd be happy to have him if he chooses GB. It matters a great deal since he would already be a Sr and only have one year left. If you think playing at SCSU and playing at UWGB are even remotely similar, than you are seriously mistaken. It could take up to half of the year for him just to catch up and adjust to the physicality and quickness of the D1 level. He may have matured, but he is still a headcase and very selfish. If he is in our starting line up (let alone our best player), we are in for a world of hurt. He is a slower scoring point guard who does not have that good of passing ability and has a slow release on his shot. It is good enough to get it off when you are playing the likes of UM-Crookston, but not Valpo, UW, and other D1 schools that we play. We would be wasting two years of scholly on a one year kid, not a good deal. Pass on him (or maybe it is too late). BTW, your Pippen comparison is valid but that is pretty drastic. He is a needle in a haystack kind of guy. For every Scottie Pippen's in the world, there are millions that do not make it I am not trying to come off as argumentative but I just feel this would be a wasted scholly...just my opinion.

I thought Poydras signed, but I spoke too soon.....I would rather have Scott just for the simple reason it will balance out the classes a little more. But it looks like Scott would rather stick closer to home so it may be IUPUI or IPFW.
If neither Poydras or Scott sign, I would assume Linc would bank that scholarship unless we get another late signing JC player or other D1 transfer.
