Bryson Scott is down to IUPUI, IPFW and GB. Based on the quotes he wants to play GB's style but would like to be near his home in Indiana. IPFW is home and IUPUI is a hybrid of home and style. I think in the end he should come to GB. If he wants to be a high level player so he should play in a style that plays to his strengths more than he should play at a lower level closer to home.

I didn't think we had any scholarships left. Someone from the recruiting class (most likely Poydras) would have to pay his own way in 2015-2016 as Poydras and/or Scott would have to sit out. Scott would have 2 years left and would help balance out the classes, but since Trev Anderson is coming in 2016-2017, we will have a glut of guards, even for a 3-guard system Linc likes to run. I'd like to use that last remaining scholarship for 2016-2017 (presumably replacing Fouse when he graduates) on a young forward.

At this point an open scholarship will give Darner flexibility. The need is not pressing it is somewhat of a bonus. If Scott or Poydras want to sign that is great. Otherwise hold it for a summer pick-up or school year transfer.

Would love to have Scott! But I agree with Tulsa, no need to rush.

Apparently UWGB wasn't even a consideration for Matt Mooney:

Ayinde Sprewell says on Instagram that he will be playing at GB. He has one season of eligibility remaining. He's Latrell's nephew.

Apparently he deleted it off his Instagram now, but still could be someone to keep an eye on.
My guess is that Bryson Scott is the priority and that Darner and company are just lining up fall-back options (Poydras, Sprewell, and I think Matt Mooney was a back-up option as well).

Clearly the GB staff has talked with Sprewell but perhaps not officially offered him pending "other" developments. This site indicates he's heading back to NAIA St. Thomas. www.verbalcommits.com/players/ayinde-sprewellIt looks like he would have a year an a half of eligibility left or possibly two years depending on how the NCAA viewed his brief court time at Western Kentucky.

Sprewell is a crazy athlete, looks like he could be an impact player if he plays hard on both ends. I know at WKU his defense was an issue that limited his PT. Based on what I know, which isn't always a lot, I think Sprewell only has one year left to play and would have to sit out all of 15-16 before playing it. His instagram had #2017nba draft in it so that is when he thinks he will be done and we know all non graduate transfers have to sit one year. If he is a walk on that is great. If he is on scholarship I would guess that he is the backup option to Scott and would be a toss up with Podyras.

If Sprewell came to GB, I wonder if Uncle Latrell will be making regular visits to GB......;-)...and looking for comp tickets in one of the suites at the Resch ;-)
I still remember him in his last days for the Minnesota T-Wolves when in 2004 he turned down a 3-year 21 mil. contract extension and made the famous claim that '....he had a family to feed.'.....Needless to say no other team signed him after that, and the financial issues followed (grounded yacht and 2 foreclosed homes to start).

The stories of NBA stars and financial disasters could fill a library. Sad. Latrell's journey to the NBA was unorthodox to say the least. He was clearly not ready to handle the fame and fortune. His nephew has a lot of talent if he can focus it. It would be a sham if he went NAIA but beyond that he needs that degree.
It should be interesting to see what Darner does with the remaining scholarship. If it was up to me I'd hold on to it until I was absolutely sure the recruit would be a good teammate, D1 talent and not an academic risk. In this case a scholarship available is an asset. The new coaching staff has done an outstanding job rebuilding the 2015 recruiting class.

Sprewell is being recruited as a walk on. The staff is still out there and hitting the concrete hard. They are looking at numerous players including Scott and will have good options. They are not leaving any stone unturned.

They are not leaving any stone unturned. I am glad to hear he is being looked at as a PWO spot rather scholly. I think Ayinde has a ton of talent but seems to always try and make the flashy play. If he could gain some discipline in his play, he could create some havoc in Darner's system. I would be happy to nab either Ayinde or Poydras for a PWO spot. Maybe that is wishful thinking.
