From my view half way up in section 209 this was a tough loss to take. To go up 6 points with 5 minutes left and be tied 2 minutes later...it couldn't have gone much worse. I did think overall they played hard and played solid defense with few break downs. I saw more good CSU play making than bad defense.
It really is a close in the HL. If Love makes a free throw or Lee doesn't hit a 25 foot 3 point bank shot with 1:12 left over a fully extended Fouse what conversation are we having for the last 36 hours?
I didn't watch the replay, was taking time off the clock at the end the right call? Also, was there a foul on the last pass down court?
As for shooting I wouldn't say it is from a total lack of trying to not recruit shooters. Kanter and Botz are supposed to be able to shoot but have other reasons keeping them off the court. GB did try to recruit Tre Harris and Jerrelle Deberry. Those are two guys that could be hitting 3's right now. They lost out on Alec Peters to Valpo and Matt Thomas at Iowa State would probably look more effective in the HL than the Big 12. Does anyone know why Aaron Armstead left? He is a 40% 3 point shooter now for NIU.
As for this year GB is now playing for the #3 seed and trying to get the best path to the HL Championship game. They are down to playing for a chance.

Playing two games in three days against a rested team is tough. Cleveland State loses to Milwaukee. Green Bay has had the two in three situation often this year. Looks like Valpo is in the drivers seat now. Green Bay could still end up with second place.

This team frustrates me at times. The defensive and rebounding numbers keep us near the top of the standings, and briefly at times, the defense is Bennett-era like. But in recent weeks they have slipped. Skill-wise there are still holes on this team. We settle for jump shots when we clearly don't have enough players with the ability to shoot from the outside or consistently from the FT line. We have players that can drive and slash to the basket, but when you can't hit the front-end of a 1 and 1, then what good is driving to the basket.
I never completely bought into the fact that Carrington Love is a 2-guard. He's no more than the first guard off the bench as a backup PG, or a second PG on a true 3-guard lineup. He may be one of our best outside shooters, but it looks like he or anyone else is not confident in their shot.....Not having a true scoring 2-guard the past 2 years shows that BW has swung and missed on this position. Too bad we could not land Milton Doyle when he left KU; He could have been a difference-maker at the 2 spot. Heck, I would take Sultan Muhammad right now at the 2-guard spot. I like the potential of Francis, but he too, like the rest of the guards, need an outside shot. CSU's and Valpo's guards (as a group) just seem more complete than ours, aside from Sykes (and his outside shot is shaky at times).
UWM did us a BIG favor last night. Unless there is a collapse by Valpo, they will be hosting. We still have a shot at the #2 seed, but we need to win out and now have to pull for Valpo to beat CSU on the road next Friday night. We typically play well at Valpo's ARC, but as it looks right now, our inability to shoot from the outside and the FT line will kill us somewhere in the HL tourney.
Is there a shot-doctor in the house???

GBPhoenix1, Jerrelle DeBerry wouldn't have been an option. As I said a couple years ago...: I think he's out there to get more exposure. Kids usually don't go to prep schools like that unless they feel they aren't getting exposure. I worry about his grades. Destiny is hardly a reputable school, and now he's going prep where kids are often there just to play ball. He's got academic problems and he didn't know anybody related to the superintendent lol. So, you could have him soon but not now.

I am simply pointing out that GB has tried to recruit reasonably athletic players who can shoot and for various reasons didn't get any of them. I know for sure Wardle puts a priority on ball handling over shooting for point guards. I think the shooting guard issue is just from the guys they tried to land not ending up in GB for various reasons. Should I take that last line as a subtle dig at university, the athletic department or both?
