UIC (10-6) @ Green Bay (7-9) Saturday, January 12, 3:00, The Resch Center
UIC has been awful since they snapped there 8 game win streak in mid- December. That streak included wins over Northwestern and Colorado St. Who knows what to expect out of them. Coach Wardle and Green Bay needs the victory. Flames forward Hayden Humes might be the biggest villain in the conference, I don't care for him.

Must win! UIC hasnt won at the Resch since February 18, 2004 (8 straight losses) and GB has won 13 of the past 17 meetings with the Flames. Like you say J they started better than any other HL team but now it seems they've come back down to earth. I think we're in for a really good game tomorrow

Phoenix got open looks all day but couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. Yet they came away with a win by playing stifling defense and controlling the glass. Great to see GB show the discipline to defend hard without fouling.

I have to believe the outside shooting will come around..Sultan, Cerroni and Stephen will all be hot from downtown one of these days and look out.
The pieces seem to be there and the performance on the road is troubling but the season is not over.

Have to agree with Shooting the J if they could get a shot to fall they would have scored 70+ points and the athleticism to play D and rebound has been what's keep them winning. If they could get both together they could be special. Now if they could just start winning on the road.

A good win for the Phoenix and another good game for Alec Brown. The way Alec played this game was what we all were expecting this season.
They still need to clean up the free throw shooting and the general outside shooting was not good either. However, with the game on the line they made free throws and gathered big rebounds. Not a pretty game but certainly a good close out down the stretch.
Moving to 2-2 in league play is big. The two Chicago schools came in to league play looking strong and are both 1-3. With Valpo and Detroit with one loss each it keeps GB in striking distance. This assumes that Wright State actually loses some games at some point and opens the door for everyone else.

They have to get better a shooting FT's. It drove me nuts seeing 46% at half time and still 50% with 10 min. gone in the 2nd half. They did get it going in the last few minutes and it won the game. FT's to me are the most over looked part of the game and many times can be the difference between winning and losing. I know we could have won at least 1 road game with hitting our 75%.

Agreed - Detroit just lost to Cleveland State while shooting 40%. Too bad they had to pick their game with GB to shot 90%

Agree that free throws were an issue early against UIC and was glad to see the team make all seven in the final minutes to help seal the victory.
I did want to just point out that this team was ranked 10th nationally in free-throw percentage as recently as two weeks ago and is still ranked in the top-30 in the country (out of nearly 350 teams). The guys who shoot the most free throws on the team have been very good for the most part (Keifer, Cougill, Alec). Keifer has missed a few of late after making 16 in a row earlier in the season but is still shooting 79.8 percent.
A story on Kam's school-record streak coming to an end. He was fouled hard and hit his right hand on the ground. He told me after the game that he was shocked he even made the second one because of his hand. He ended up being fine and made two big free throws late in the game.
Hopefully they all go in this weekend! Go Phoenix!

All of the above is true. Like I've said in other threads 75% is my target. It was just frustrating to see UIC hang around. I'm glad to hear Kam is ok I thought he might have broken something the way he fell from the hard foul. All three did come up big in the end. Sooooo yes GO PHOENIX.

As a team I know that GB is still shooting it very well for the season and is one of the top teams in the country. That is why it is so frustrating when they don't go in because I am expecting it to swish. Makes are contagious and so are misses, I don't want the cold spell to continue. Make the free throws and win some road games.
I am sure they work on it all the time but the freshman need to step up a lot in this area.

Flames forward Hayden Humes might be the biggest villain in the conference, I don't care for him. Any reason? He seems to play hard a shoot a lot from the outside but I can't say I really noticed him one way or the other.
