Your tongue has to firmly be in cheek, here, I HOPE I don’t get it. Meant as stretch 4s. Is your goal to finish close to the bottom of the league some more? Then we should hurry up and use our remaining 5 scholarships on retreads you’ve suggested from the worst days in our teams history like Heffner, Wade, Short, Cummings, and Meyer. Nothing against those individuals as players or people, but what do you really expect us to accomplish with that kind of roster? What makes you think they would lead us to success this time around? Do you think they would actually help us win or are you just throwing out names that you think would be willing to settle for a GB offer because you’re worried about not having a full roster in the beginning of June two weeks into a coaching change? Doug has brought in some high potential players at a good pace since being hired. He’s averaging a solid recruit, by potential, each week. I’m personally very happy with this pace and have no issues waiting another month and a half for him to fill out the roster with players he believes fit what he’s trying to create. There’s really not a huge rush. If we have 5 open scholarships come the middle of July then feel free to sound the alarm and start suggesting bodies to simply fill out a roster.

First of all Cade Meyer is on a new team. It’s the worst thing in the world to have one of those guys David Douglas, Ryan Wade, Clarence Cummings they were good enough for Sonny wicks.

Even IF a ton of scholarships are still open in mid July, that doesn't mean alarm bells necessarily NEED to sound, especially now since the portal is oversaturated with talent. For example, wasn't Karem Kanter signed like a week before classes started?

I think everyone wants Douglas back, no argument there. Do you think Wicks would have brought in Wade or Cummings if they weren’t already on the roster? Given his playing time, was Wade really “good enough” for Wicks? I wouldn’t be upset if Cummings came back but the whole point of the post is that we’d rather see what Doug can do to try take the potential up a level or two from where we’ve been recently. Bringing back a bunch of retreads isn’t exciting, is likely to produce poor results, and gets really old after hearing the same comments over and over. Have some patience and see what plays out over the next few weeks.

Not sure what you didn't see last year or any year before that. David Douglas is good. Everyone agrees on that and wants him back. Cade Meyer is not good. Guy lasted half the year at NKU and hardly played. Ryan Wade is horrible. If you think he is good, then I don't know what to tell you. Clarence Cummings also is not good. He provided us great moments on a 3-29 cause no one else was talented. Last year should have taught you that. It seems like you think anyone who has ever got a D1 basketball scholarship is some great player. Mississippi Valley St and IU Indy have to fill up rosters to play too. If you want to be like those teams then take the players you mention cause that is where you will be.

There are players who will make those around them better and have the ability to camoflage the weaknesses of others. Reynolds was that player last season for Wicks. Gottlieb has already brought in three recruits who may have that ability. We'll see. Wonders will benefit the most from that athletic trio -- so would Douglas. There will be a lot more open looks from the perimeter in the coming season.
As to past members of the team that might have blossomed in this new environment - I think Donovan Short is a prime example. Coach Sanders could have changed his life and career. Of course that would have depended on Short's commitment and maturity. A basketball roster is a giant jigsaw puzzle -- the ingredients -- athletic ability, intelligence, maturity and chemistry. Dick Bennett did it with players few other division one programs recruited.
This will be an interesting summer to see the different pieces of the puzzle being added and the impact on the players who stayed. I didn't think it was possible but Gottlieb is a better marketing person and better connected than Wicks. No wrap against Sunny. The Nix new coach seems to be able to shift gears using different approaches. Gottlieb understands the changing paradigm of college athletics and how the Nix can fit in.

I guess I'll always be pessimistic that a 4 Star would choose Green Bay over Texas A&M, but if Coach Gottlieb gets JJ all bets are off on the future of the program. I would think Johnson and Miranda instantly push them to a favorite in the conference with the potential to get a few more splash signings. But I'll believe it when I see it.

Once Johnson is official it would be impossible to deny that Doug has been destroying expectations on the recruiting front.
The next step would then be to destroy in game coaching expectations. Plenty of talented teams don't win anything.
The program has some serious momentum right now, I'm more pumped than ever to see Doug and the guys get to work!

It’s tough to win with low potential players, but we’ve all seen rosters full of potential at all levels that never amount to much. We’re trending towards having solid potential to work with, seemingly well beyond our average talent level for the last 5 years or so. We’ll have to wait a few months to see what it translates to, but count me in as being pumped to see how it all plays out.

He looks athletic. They usually are. To play in fast tempo offense. Uwgb has never had that kind of size in at least 15 years.

As Phoenix fans got love this Jordan lathon the former Milwaukee panther. Averaged 15 ppg for morhead state this season. He’s a good guard. He might not be some former 4 star guard. And he spent year somewhere else since Milwaukee. Actually it might of been 2 years ago. He was injured all last season. He’s one of the most high ranked transfers left. Portal report made a top 100 list he was #88 there is only 4 left in top 100 he is one of the 4.
