We all do the best we can do within the resources we have available and try to build for a better future. I covered a school who hired a coach based on the fact his dad was willing to give a big junk of money to help the program pay off some bills. It was a huge mistake by the AD and college president. That was years ago and I was living in another part of the country.
Hiring any employee is not a science no matter how much homework you do ahead of time.

The shortfalls have more to do with a small enrollment compared to GB's peers, state politics and a general disinterest in GB men's basketball from the community over the last half of a decade. Like it or not the other public schools in this league have more students. That means more student fees or more tuition dollars that get allocated to sports. Plus some schools are in states with larger state funding to the university in general. UWGB's state contribution as a percentage of the total budget is much lower than it used to be. Add in a plateau in donations and a decrease in ticket revenue as community interest was waning and I'm not sure this is anyone's fault. I appreciate the AD and the new basketball coach are both out there actively telling people to get involved and spend money. I see them doing it and I see it working so that is refreshing. The community is doing it's part. The university is doing some too but they can't move as fast with a limited checkbook and lots of demands on that checkbook. So in other words, Moon wasn’t being entirely truthful about their willingness to pay for a good coach. I wouldn't say that. They hired a coach they like just as much as a more expensive coach and then used the extra money for other things. They definitely raised significant money for the program, sight unseen I might add, to put it in a more competitive position. It isn't my news to share but there are tangible things you will see which are happening because they didn't have to pay more for the head coach.

It's actually brilliant. It's almost like this is how an athletic department should be run.

Been meaning to say this - it only caught my ear in the first media Coach did during womens game. I dont know if he mentioned in intro press conference but when Coach talks about old coaches at GB and names the successful ones - he doesn't mention Darner who took us to March Madness 20+ years later. Thought that was intentional omit.

No, having done a lot of public speaking I can tell you that X amount of times you will misspeak, or forget to include something in your comments. There's not always a conspiracy to things.
