Surprised but not surprised. In-season firings are the trend to have someone in place to hit the ground running near season's end for recruiting and retaining.

I am back due to this news. Was away cause I couldn't muster up anything useful to say after watching these games. I am beyond surprised that it happened at this point but am happy they did it. Its one thing to take time to build the program but this has become a joke a this point. This program should never be among the worst 10 teams in division 1. I dont even care if we lose some players due to it because it is a lot easier to build a roster in todays environment. Just look at milwaukee this year

I am assuming a current assistant will fill the role as interim for the balance of this year?

Good on the university to do what I didn’t think they had the guts to do, and let him go mid season. While I don’t like celebrating a man losing his job (he’s still a human being) this had to be done. GB is 360th out of 363 teams in the country. He clearly was out of his depth when it came to bringing in skilled recruits and coaching them to win. He’s very young in his coaching career and I wish him nothing but the best, but it’s now on the university to do everything they can to find the right guy to turn this team back into a winning basketball team that people care about.

I am assuming a current assistant will fill the role as interim for the balance of this year? No I am the interim coach. There's a new sheriff in town. Darner's buyout ends in April, Will's buyout is for the full amount.

Unfortunately you could see this coming. I am really curious about the timing.
When the dust settles I believe GB will hire someone solid. They have more resources available for that part of the process than they are given credit for.

This is the best day we have had in the program in the last 3 years. It's sad but it is the truth

Now on the hook for 500k over the next 3 years - is UWGB done paying Darner? Not sure how they are going to pay a quality coach.

It appears assistant coach Jared Swanson is also out. He is not listed on the team webpage.

Will Ryan was hired because he was willing to work for peanuts. Tried to support his program, but him and his staff were in over their heads.
If they want to hire from a real pool of coaches, they'll need to step up and spend. Green Bay is no longer a small school, and it needs to start acting like it

Nothing like firing Linc (should have given him one more year) and citing declining attendance for the LATE firing (in June 2020 after most other jobs and potential other candidates, have been filled…..and in the middle of the COVID pandemic no less), only to have worse attendance in the putrid Will Ryan era. If we want a good candidate pool, offering $175,000 is not going to cut it. I’ve seen Jimmie Fosters name being floated around, but he’s probably make close to that already at Bradley as BWs lead assistant. Need to. One up with more money this time around.

Jimmy Foster was a final candidate last go around. Ties to the Milwaukee area as well. Brian Barone is another qualified candidate as well who is currently having success at SIUE as the HC.

Nah Jimmie isn't making anywhere near $175k Brian Barone is another qualified candidate as well who is currently having success at SIUE as the HC. Maybe instead of a company car this one can have a clause for a driver.

What about former Ohio coach Saul Phillips? Josh Moon hired him at Northern State.
