The road gets harder before it gets easier for GB. There is a 4 way tie for first place in the Horizon League and YSU comes into GB at 6-2 as one of those teams.
Of the 8 guys that have been able to play almost every game they have 3 graduate students, 3 seniors, 1 junior and 1 freshman. This is a very experienced team.
They are an offensive juggernaut which isn't exactly what Phoenix fans want to see after last weekends games. YSU is #1 in the league in PPG, #2 in FG%, #1 in 3pt FG% and #1 in assists. They aren't a great defensive team as they are #6 in points allowed, and #8 in defensive FG%. However, they are #2 in steals. They have two huge dudes in the paint in Nelson and Green but overall are only 5th in rebounding in the league.
They are an interesting team to watch. They spread the court out and let guys go one on one and then kick to shooters if they get shut down. The last I watched they didn't run a ton of ball screens which is good for GB. They go for steals to try and get easy offense but then aren't the best defensive team. They pretty much let skilled dudes hoop and dare you to outscore them. For GB to have any chance they are going to really have to man up and guard their man. If you get beat off the dribble you are in huge trouble against YSU. Every player has the green light to shoot 3's so getting beat and needing help is a recipe to allow the best shooting team to hunt open shots and knock them down. With the added insult to injury being a guy like Nelson will grab any misses and clean up at the hoop. Noel and Brandon just went nuts on GB and Nelson is built and plays just like those guys.
I would say they are a little cocky and it wouldn't surprise me to see them come out of the gate slow against a team they believe and the numbers indicate they will destroy. They started slow against IUPUI recently before going on a 20+ point run after Calhoun chewed them out during an early timeout.

Why are they playing all their Feb home games at the Kress? I just noticed that. Ridiculous

Why are they playing all their Feb home games at the Kress? I just noticed that. Ridiculous I assume this is due to the cost savings of playing at the Kress versus the rental cost of the Resch? Someone in the past quoted what it cost them to rent the Resch but I can't remember what it was.

What's strange is that the February games are on the Resch Center's calendar. Were they bumped by the Gamblers, who also have games those nights? Did UWGB just decide to keep them on campus because attendance is so poor?

I have never been fan of playing at the Kress but I will save you from the rant. With the Gamblers being home on the same weekends and some concerts coming two different issues pop up. One is the game time and the other is the basketball court has to be taken down and put back up to host different events.
The Gamblers are going to get priority at the Resch from a start time perspective. A Saturday afternoon game is fine but it historically isn't as kind to the attendance as a Saturday night game. The team used to play a lot of Saturday night games under TK and BW. I know Darner preferred Saturday afternoon and that was part of how the program got away from that night time slot.
The bigger issue is the court has to potentially be set up and access time to the court is more limited. I would almost guarantee that PMI charges additional money to set the court up. If you have two teams with two different arena set ups competing for time in the building, one of those teams isn't going to get the pregame prep time they want. Use this weekend for example. The Phoenix play on Thursday night, the Gamblers on Friday night and the Phoenix on Saturday night. The court comes down and goes back up. The Phoenix probably can't practice in the Resch on Friday and can only do a shoot around on Saturday once the building is ready again.
The last home weekend of the season the Resch has a concert on Friday night and the Gamblers play on Saturday night. The Phoenix would have limited access to the building on Friday would have the court set up on short notice for a Saturday noon game. That seems less than ideal for everyone.

Otherwise it would be weird that you can buy some game tickets from one website and others from only the GB website.

Thanks for the explanation.

This is sad. Whenever I think it can't get worse there is always the next game.

The defense is doing some basic things better than it did previously and YSU is so good offensively I can't even be that mad about giving up 86 points.
However, when you know one of the top offenses in the country is coming to town you have to do a few other things better.
For example the tip was at 7pm not 7:04, falling behind 11-0 is making the job harder. Though the rest of the first half was fun as a fan.
The team had 16 turnovers. Now that they are actually shooting well they have to get more shots up.
YSU was great from the FT line, GB needs to make more of theirs. They picked a bad team to regress against.
It seemed like GB was uncomfortable when they had transition opportunities as they didn't convert on several breakouts in the second half.
Nice game for Brock and Garren was still able to score off the bench so that was good to see as well.
I wasn't expecting much and when the one guy not mentioned in my overview at the start of the thread banked in a 3 ball I kind of knew this was going to be a tough night.

New user but long time follower of this message board. I’m a Phoenix and long time fan. Figured it’s finally time to jump in. Didn’t expect this game to be competitive, but I think Saturday is a good shot at a win. Probably best chance until IUPUI again.

You are probably right on that - RMU at home last year was one of our 4 conference wins. We'll see.
IUPUI took Oakland to overtime last night before losing.

Vegas doesn't think we'll get a W today, we're getting 9 points which seems like a lot, but look at what we've done and you can't say we haven't earned it.
