How many guys transfer after the season is over? I’m thinking Cade Brock Zae CC Ziegler.. Will ryan recruits well but cannot keep the talent he brings in due to his coaching inability. I certainly don't care about this right now and yes some guys we may want to stay won't. The "our best guy is going to leave" talk within the season is a twice told tale on this board. Amari Davis is good, he's going to transfer to Xavier was a repeated post throughout his freshman year. Worrying about the roster next year isn't a time sensitive issue. Though few players have left GB and had better stats fwiw. Understood but the issue at hand is the coaching so it is a time sensitive issue since he’s regressed every year he’s been at GB and it will continue to be that way until a change happens. No one likes losing and I’m not sure anyone will be bought in to a rebuild if the results stay the same

Timing matters in a hypothetical coaching change scenario. If they pulled the trigger now, then they give all of the players and recruits 7 weeks of speculation and uncertainty. People will be in their ears even more.
Very few guys appear checked out at this point in time. Let them play it out and the results will fall where they may.
I will stay consistent on this issue. I'm not going to convince anyone that we should see year 4 of this. I want to see them win games. I just think staying patient and letting it play out for this year is better for the long term no matter who is the coach.

Heck look at Georgetown, they are still keeping Patrick Ewing on the books until after the year. Last night was probably the biggest tail kicking I have witnessed at the Resch Center. Gotta respond tomorrow though.

I hope last night is the low of the season and the Will Ryan era. Cant remember going to a game at the Resch and getting blown out that bad. No matter what lineup they tried last night, Noel killed them inside. Same old same old- a team that lacks talent, development, and coaching. A staff that recruits the state well but struggles to recruit outside the state and internally recruit plays to stay. The beat goes on....

Honestly we pretty much looked like the Washington Generals out there last night.
The talent gap is significant and evident. The promise of "player development" really doesn't appear to be materializing or at least be at a rate that is impactful. Other basic attributes like being able to run faster or jump higher than your opponent, isn't anything that you can just "teach". But the coach recruited these players so.....??
I will say guys, that I am totally over the "let's focus on recruiting guys from Wisconsin" thing. But I worry that we now going to be in a "beggar's can't be choosy" situation when it comes to recruiting?
The box score said attendance was 2409 - how can that be?

A staff that recruits the state well but struggles to recruit outside the state and internally recruit plays to stay. The beat goes on.... I don’t necessarily agree with the takeaway points but I don’t disagree with the sentiment that the status of things leaves a lot to be desired. On the recruiting front, four of the top 6 scorers are JUCO players. The Wisconsin high school recruiting has netted only 3 players (including Brock) in year 2 of D1 and only 1 healthy player in year two in the program. That isn’t an accurate portrayal of if that strategy will work long term. I don’t care where kids come from but they are putting the future eggs in the WI high school recruiting basket, while the current team is Juco and portal heavy in the current on court rotation. It is fair to say they didn’t get their pick of the litter in the Juco and Portal world from a perspective of getting ready to go guys. I know everyone is pointing to player development. This isn’t an excuse but it is kind of hard to judge when we have had a new team each of the last past two years. The team had 4 holdovers from last year. Nate has unfortunately regressed. Brayden is hurt but prior to being hurt didn’t improve enough to be in the rotation. That leaves Cade and Randy. It is fair to say that offensively they are both better players than we saw a year ago. Randy has more than doubled his scoring and his shooting percentage is up by 8% overall and 11% from deep compared to last year. His 3 point shooting is up 6% as a starter this year compared to coming off of the bench in the first 6 games. He actually looks like a real D1 player which I don’t think anyone would have said last year. From a coaching and player development standpoint Cade averaged 9&4 last year on 48% shooting. They tried to go to a new offense this year and he had a slow start to the year. Since December when they ditched a lot of what was supposed to be the new offense, Cade is now working down low and his scoring went from 9ppg in the first 6 games to 13ppg in the last 12 games. His FG% went from 45% in the first 6 games to 62% in the last 12 games. That definitely looks like player development and also making a coaching adjustment to get one of the star players into better position to score more efficiently. Even within this year, Garren just went into the starting lineup. In the 3 games he started he has averaged 12ppg on 50% shooting. Prior to that he was averaging just under 5 ppg and shooting 24%. In the short term I would give that up to coaching and development. The frustrating thing about this year from a coaching standpoint is on the strategy side of the house. They spent all of summer and fall camp plus the first month of the season trying to get their Warriors offense going. That clearly wasn’t a good fit and they have gone to other ideas in addition to that. It is fair to say that those adjustments have started to work. They went to a 3.5 guard (depending on what you think Cummings is) lineup and guys are knocking down shots. That is great but think of how much time was lost trying to get guys ready for the season with the other offense. At a time when the team should be coming together like a UWM is, GB is just getting to the point of being November ready. The really big issue to me is the defense, which wasn’t great to begin with and has totally spiraled out of control. To get the more efficient offense going it has come at the cost of the defense it seems. I am going to guess they work on this every day and with more reps they will have a functional defense just like they now have a functional offense. However, so much time was lost and this team has now been reduced to hoping to be ready by February. I am not suggesting that will happen, just that seems to be the reality of getting the defense game ready and thereby actually winning a game. None of this is saying Coach Ryan should be exonerated for this season. It is just my two cents on how things got to this point in this season but it isn’t as simple as just no coaching and no development. I see more coaching happening than he is given credit for. The problem is UWM for example is stacking good days with the same system since June. Green Bay had to start restacking days in December. That is on the coach no doubt but now lets see if he can coach the defense up in the next 7 weeks. God willing he can because I don’t want to set a new low point after last night.

Far from being exonerated, if what you are saying is correct, that's a significant coaching issue. If you spend the entire pre-season installing an offense that requires an install of a different offense later on, and if that later install causes problems on the defensive end, that's a coaching problem.

If you spend the entire pre-season installing an offense that requires an install of a different offense later on, and if that later install causes problems on the defensive end, that's a coaching problem. The better players from the first Will Ryan team didn't want to play his original style of offense anymore and left. Last year we heard guys saying they wanted to try something different or better suited to them and the team had another exodus. To Coach Ryan's credit he adjusted the offense to be something more modern. However, that system didn't click for all of the players. Unfortunately, with something new they only got to see the offense against themselves in practice. Without years of experience with the system they didn't find out that it wasn't a good fit until they started playing the real games. Coach Ryan has adjusted some things and there is no denying that they have improved significantly on offense as they have repped it out in practice and have game film to review with players. The coaching issue isn't that Coach Ryan can't see changes that need to be made on offense or is unwilling to make those changes. From behind my keyboard writing that he doesn't make changes seems inaccurate. He tried something new and definitely got burned. He fixed it for the most part. Now lets see what he comes up with on defense because it is clear that what they are doing isn't working. I'd like to finish the season strong no matter what is happening in the minds of others.

I don't think anyone disagrees with you there. Hopefully it starts tomorrow! It'll be my first game in person since UWM. Seems forever ago.
