The team is on the road again. This time they play Purdue Fort Wayne at 6pm on Thursday. The game is scheduled for the War Memorial Coliseum which looks like a building that is entirely too large for Horizon League basketball. If there is a bright side to the game it is PFW won't have a loud home court advantage.
PFW is one of the higher scoring teams in the horizon league. Unlike some of the other top scoring teams they are amongst the top for fewest points allowed as well. GB isn't likely to score 76 points, which is what PFW averages. So the GB defense is going to have to be much improved if they want a chance.
Here are some other interesting stats.
PFW is #2 in the HL in assists, they have several guards that really know how to share the ball.
PFW is #2 in the HL in steals. They don't block a lot of shots at the rim but they do a good job at stealing the ball before the offense can get to the rim.
PFW is #1 in the HL in 3pt FG defense. GB is last in the HL in 3pt FG shooting percentage. Their defense definitely leads to teams taking a lot of contested 3's. Cade needs to be able to catch the ball in the post and function better than he did against OU if GB is planning to score more than 50 points in this game. A healthy Brock would go along way as well.
PFW is third in the league in rebounding margin and GB is 10th. Guys like Clarence and Brock need to really improve on the glass. These are guys with enough strength or length to be bigger contributors on the glass. To compete in this game GB is going to need a much better rebounding effort than we have seen in most games this year.
So there you have it. PFW seems to be really good in areas that GB isn't. This game will be a tough task for GB.
