Hey at least we made some money right?
Having 45 point losses isn’t the best for job security.
GBPhoenix1, I respect your opinion on how we should wait till the end of the year in regards to the future of the program but at the same time the future of the program is at stake RIGHT NOW. Tonight was an embarrassment.

Tonight was an embarrassment. The results will speak for themselves. There is no point in making something that isn't fun to watch even less enjoyable. The leadership of the university is at every home game from what I can see. They know the team isn't playing well and they know at the end of the day one person has the responsibility for that. That one person knows he has the responsibility for it too. They had 12 guys available to play tonight and 11 played in the first half. What can they do right now to make it better? The roster is what it is. They changed the offense. They changed the starting five. They changed the rotation. They tried 2 bigs. They tried 4 guards. They tried to play zone. Will Ryan is going to coach the team on Sunday, that is a fact we have to accept. In less than 90 days we will know if he was able to figure anything out for this group and what the university thinks of the results.

This was the most pathetic performance I’ve seen in years. I put my hand up after UMKC and it has been put back down. This team is dogshit and it starts with the coach. I wouldn’t let him on the plane back home. Stanford is not a good team and we just lost by 45. This team would’ve came closer without a coach tonight because they wouldn’t be running this shit ass offense.

The offense has been effective in getting Cade going but it's fair to say it hasn't helped many others.
Against Stanford I would have liked to see the offense. They had so many unforced turnovers they didn't give themselves a chance to run that offense.
Dudes stepping on the sidelines. Passes to the bleachers. Bullet passes from 3 feet away. Get a rebound and then get it stolen away immediately. There were times I was praying they could just get into their shit ass offense to even have a chance to score.
What we saw last night was the worst game for the team in years.
I would play Wade more. He had some nice passes and was one of the few guys to not soil himself when he got double teamed.

I agree with you Coach Ryan will be on the sidelines on Sunday but I would be concerned if the Administration isn’t already speaking together on the future of this program. Results like last night will force their hands to take action.
We currently are the laughing stock of D1 Basketball.

I have only seen one game(they won) so I do not know if this is just a talent/recruiting issue.

Jury is still out on Ziegler because he has been banged up a little.

Those ills you speak of, the bullet passes from three feet away, etc., shows that the team simply isn’t prepared for pressure at a D1 level. A lot of these mental mistakes, I believe, can be chalked up to being so poorly prepared that the guys are forced to make split second decisions just to try to keep their head above water while running an offense or defense. I do not watch high school basketball, but I find it hard to believe that some of these kids simply forgot how to play in their transition from HS to this level. If they did or aren’t up to it? Then that is piss poor recruiting, development, and roster construction, which also happens to trace back to one guy. Simply put, another showing like this game, even if there is slight improvement, HAS to be grounds for immediate termination. Why wait? See if an assistant like Freddie Owens can at least step in and try to salvage some of the roster he helped recruit that would leave after this abomination of a year anyway. It truly can’t get any worse, or can it? I’ve watched a lot of bad basketball at the college level, from D1 to D3, and this might’ve been the worst team showing I’ve seen, no hyperbole.

Watch a Garren Davis JUCO game and then you will see why he threw a 3 foot bullet pass in transition. He is used to just coming down and everyone playing 1 on 5 and jacking up a shot with no transition defense. Something that doesn't happen in a Pac12 road game.
Saving the roster with Freddie is an all time fallacy. He won't be the next head coach and likely won't be retained by the next head coach unless the next coach already wanted him. That is unlikely and the guys will bounce if there is a new coach. The next coach will be starting from square one almost no matter what if a move is made now or in March.
This program was run like a low major and is getting low major results. Flushing away $525,000 as an in season knee jerk reaction is silly. A better strategy is let the current coach figure out this year. If they win enough conference games to point to a future then maybe he can bring in some reinforcements. If they don't then...
In one post we only have 1 D1 guard and in the next the coach isn't coaching the guards. Coming off of a 5 win season this wasn't a destination. I am willing to let this coach see if he can do something with this roster against our peer schools.
Against peer schools this season with this roster and this coach I would say the team is 2-4 (KC, IUPUI, Queens, UVU, UWM & UST). That still isn't good but would put the team on pace for 7-13 in league play. That isn't good enough overall, so they are going to need to band together once they get in league play and not fold when times get tough. I'd like to give them the opportunity to do so before pulling the trigger on a bigger decision.

It's hard not to feel like we are doing too many "buy" games right now. I hope it's worth it financially, and in some way is one soul-crushing step back for what will become two performance steps forward.....eventually. I don't know if that is the map or not.
I was thinking gee, we should schedule a couple cupcake games so we can build some confidence. But Michigan Tech and SNC were kind of supposed to be easy victories and we barely won. I didn't see either game, but in reading the feedback from you guys on here, I think after those two games, it was clear in hindsight that should have been an "oh shit" moment.
Very grateful for Cade Meyer, team/coaches do need to "develop" some down-low skills or tricks in terms of where he holds the ball, the timing of him holding it, etc. He had 7 turnovers last night and it feels like whenever he gets it down low there's a good probability of a fumble-rooskie event. As I think GBPhoenix1 has said in the past, shoddy outside shooting allows the defense to just implode on Meyer down load, so until we can hit an open shot, maybe this happening is a inevitable.
What do you say about our chronic inability to make an outside shot? I mean, the hoop is 10 feet high everywhere right? Even though no one could hit the broad side of a barn last night, I enjoyed seeing us spreading the minutes - great to see Short, Wade, and Rose all get double-digit minutes. Let's please keep that up (Coach Ryan, please write this down so you don't forget), and maybe let's see 2 Shorts in the game a bit more as well. Why the hell not?
I am afraid I don't share much optimism on our in-conference prospects as of yet. Oakland does have a poor record, but they've had a fairly respectable schedule. Robert Morris? Hard for me to envision a road victory.
Did any of you guys look online to see that Stanford has renamed its "Coach" to include like sponsorship naming rights? Jerrod Haase is the "Anne and Tony Joseph Director of Men's Basketball". I had not seen that before.

He hasn't been paying attention until now? So now after last night will he know better? If not, how long will it take?
More than just a Pac12 road game though, I mean we're trying to teach transition defense I would hope it isn't a foreign concept at this point.
We can say stuff like this for the High School recruits until we are blue in the face.

Garren davis is in his 4th year of collegiate basketball and still looks lost on the court on both ends. The juco level of play definitely made him look better than he actually is considering he was able to pretty much do whatever he wanted to do on the offensive end and jack up shots. I don’t think he’s D1 level talent so it is recruiting issue
