Tonight’s uninspiring game against a brand new, low-level D1.2 team tells me that this program needs a complete overhaul. They continue to get less competitive, and have lost any hope of growing a fan base. See, I was told on here that we absolutely cannot "burn the program down!" I think we are already to the point of digging through the ashes to even find something that resembles anything close to basketball at a D3 level, let alone a D1 level. The blinders need to come off, Will needs to go. End of story.

St. Thomas was 127 in the NET coming in. Just because they were D3 two years ago means squat. They have infinitely more resources to be successful than UWGB does. So I don't think this loss is as big of a disaster as it would seem. A better team spanked them. End of story.
In the meantime, put a smile on your face and Phade the Phoenix.

So if that is accurate wait three months like an adult and see what happens. Instead of making every loss a referendum on Will Ryan.

I appreciate the team battling back to cut it to 8 in the second half but then the wheels fell off again.
Yes, better team won but that was ugly.

As for the game. The GB run came to a grinding halt when UST stopped defending any of the GB guards and just sold out to stop the two GB bigs and Cade in particular.
Dudes on this team can't make 3's on a regular basis and until that changes the bigs are facing a steep hill.
When they did get stops they were out of position for rebounds. You can't give UST multiple looks.
Blue and Lee are big time recruits. Rhode is better than the guards GB has. There is a talent gap here that needs to be closed.

I would guess that Linc had similar resources, yet found a way to win, play competitively, and played a fun brand of ball to watch and follow. I just hope there’s a point that the Phoenix start to jell and inspire hope.

UST would not have made the inroads it has in two years were their war chest not well funded. UWGB is not well funded and I don't care who is coaching the team, when your wallet is thin you have a tough hill to climb. This is just the reality of two bad ADs and a current chancellor who bought what the last bad AD was selling only to see the plan blow up in spectacular fashion. The mess now is a result of failed leadership and execution of planning.

Agreed though, the rot goes all the way to the top I would disagree on that point also. Pre-covid the men and women both drew more than now. UWGB was also still getting NCAA shares from Butler's Final Four runs through most of Darner's tenure. That's also now gone. In no way is this a defense of Darner. There is no doubt in my mind UWGB athletics is in much worse shape financially than it was in 2019.

Whoa that got out of hand. Like to see how we fought back though.
We just don’t have the guards to compete right now. Is that on Coach Ryan? Sure he has had two off seasons to bring in his guys and it hasn’t panned out. Also giving Lucas Steiber a scholarship instead of finding someone else hurt too.

Kind of an irony that a smaller school program like GB has some bigs who can play but lacking guards. I would think it would be the other way around. Seems like bigs are harder to find. Oh well.

Remember Linc Darner said big men don’t grow on Trees…. But Linc could find guards. Dang we need a PJ Pipes type player badly. Coach Ryan needs to win this off season huge with the addition of a couple guards, his job is more than likely riding on it.

They continue to get less competitive, and have lost any hope of growing a fan base. This makes me the most upset. I 100 percent know if we put a solid basketball team on the court the people would come by the thousands. People would back Coach Ryan and fill the stands. One small example was the golf outing. After a 5 win season, he was able to sell out the golf tourney and make 50K on a Monday for the program. He just needs the results so terribly bad right now.

Is Garren Davis transferring? He hasn’t played in the last two games. He wasn’t on the bench at home. Is he hurt? Or sick?
