Vegas has us as 13 point dogs, which I think is a little high. The Tommies have an impressive record, but many wins are against non-D1 schools. I think this could actually be a toss-up since it’s coming at the beginning of the long road stretch. Hopefully the same lineup starts again.

13 seems fair if you look at these two teams numbers. GB has some momentum and I think as long as they can harass St Thomas at the 3 point line, they have a chance to be in the game late. St Thomas isnt going to be a team that beats themselves and they have multiple guys who can hit it from deep. They are 8-4 and 6 of those wins are D1 wins. Would be nice to steal one in MSP and maybe use that to recruit that area a little bit more.

I don't see Queens or Lindenwood on there either. Maybe they are not eligible for the stats page since they are still transitioning to full Division I status. Weird. Either way, they can definitely shoot the lights out. Luckily for GB they don't get many offensive rebounds - to be fair they don't miss much - and they are not very good defensively (335th in the country in defensive efficiency according to Torvik, GB is 344). Gotta be smart on defense with the helps and rotations, can't be giving up any open looks cuz they will make you pay. On offense take care of the ball, play with two bigs at all times and work it inside, and make your free throws. It would be nice to steal this one on the road before ending the non-conference with two buy games out west.

42% of UST's shots come from behind the arc. One third of those shots come from Riley Miller and he hits on 42%. As team they make 39.5% from deep. Excluding Miller they still make 37.5% from deep. The best I can tell if GB can take away Miller they can still be in trouble from deep.
He doesn't always start but Ahjany Lee is the kind of bouncy big man that GB has struggled with this year. Cade and Brock have to pound these guys inside on both ends of the court to overcome the shooting barrage from deep. When a team shoots this well you can't give them multiple looks.
Against UWM Rhode didn't have a good game. He seemed to force the action a little too much. Perhaps he will do the same tonight trying to send a message back to the state of WI. He has struggled from deep on the year so getting him to take a lot of contested 3's could go a long way towards winning the game.
I am ready for a road non conference win, it has been far too long since the last time GB had one of those.

As most of you have stated the key to tonight's game will be defending the 3 point line. One thing that really helped GB vs IUPUI and UMKC was the lack of 3 point shooting by them teams. We gave up a ton of wide open looks in those games and those teams just did not have the ability to knock down those shots. St. Thomas will make us pay if guys are left open behind the arc.

This will be a gymnasium style setting up in St. Paul, the capacity there is about 1800. They haven't gotten close to that so far, but Green Bay may draw well there. Weather is kind of sucky today though - hopefully folks just stay home. Many outlets appear to have moved the spread down to us getting 11.5. They average 9.4 threes per game and as mentioned hit 39.5% per game. For perspective, our overall FG percentage is 40%. That kind of outside shooting has the potential to blow past that spread really quick if we are not careful.
Looks like I will be trying to screen cast it to the TV, which never seems to work perfectly but will give it a go.

For those that doubt my fandom, I took GB at +11.5. Like everyone has said here, guard the three point line. Surely even Will can figure that out. Go Nix

I have never seen a more uninspired offense. Hold the ball around the three point line and throw up a shot at the end of the shot clock, or just throw it in the post with a few seconds left into a triple team. Master class.
Anyone watching this "game," I DARE you to defend what we are seeing.

GB did shoot 52% from the field. It would be helpful is Cummings wasn't falling down with the ball or throwing it to nobody.
For me the defensive effort and execution is far worse. If Zae is going to match up on Miller he will have to play a lot harder on defense than he did in the first half. Nate couldn't contain anyone either. Several times when they did get a stop they didn't snag the board.
Unfortunately this is a hole that is too big to dig out of. Maybe they can at least make it close enough to help some gamblers out. Overall this feels like the game at UMKC last season.

Yikes.
Coming off a win in two of their last three….It’s pretty amazing how quickly any glimmer of excitement or hope or optimism for the program evaporated with this display for me.
This is the first of a 6 year series with UST and they are making in-roads in recruiting Wisconsin. We are going to have to do way, way better than this against them going forward.

Tonight’s uninspiring game against a brand new, low-level D1.2 team tells me that this program needs a complete overhaul. They continue to get less competitive, and have lost any hope of growing a fan base.

I don't get it one step forward two steps back. They look lost on defense. Why can't they set screens?

Tauer and Maker are excellent coaches, and the school has a lot of resources (money). Not to mention being located in a hip area. All things Northeast Wisconsin's D1 school lacks.

What an absolutely pathetic excuse for "basketball." Is the defense worse than the offense now? It's damn close. Our guys can't even dribble, either. Remind me to wear a poncho to the game in Corvallis on Sunday, because it is going to be a bloodbath.
