General question for people in the know but, is the Ignite program designed to assist the new head coach in other ways other then straight salary? I think most assumed the funding would go towards coaching salary, but is it possible this is more setup for NIL for players and facility upgrades? More concentration on offseason conditioning, programs and weight room for example.
From what I've heard from some people that is lacking in the program and could use an addition or upgrade.

I would think the Ignite campaign was also focused on increasing the salary pool for assistant coaches as well. This is definitely needed. I agree and also hope if there is enough $$ they can invest more in strength and conditioning. I got so tired of going to games this year and when the teams walk out on the floor it looks like boys against men. All opposing teams have "dudes" that regardless if they can actually play or not, they are at least going to bully GB players all over the court and knock them off the block. Our team looks like they have no strength program whatsoever. No one is scared of GB when they get off the bus.

I have to say, I'm not overly thrilled with ANY of the names in this thread, to be honest. In my mind, having a guy who has some experience at a large major institution carries a lot of weight. I mean we want our program to move in that direction right? So in my mind, guys from the D2 or small-time schools don't excite me much. Of the names in this thread, the only one really that fits what I just said is Brannen with his Cincinnati experience. But he has some baggage too it sounds like, and gee-whiz I don't want to ever even come close to another "Wardle/Brennan Cougill's mom complaint" type thing either. I would be much more impressed with someone who has Big 10 or Pac 10 or Big East assistant coaching experience than someone who was at Hillsdale College or ever coached in the Horizon League before. And a connection to Wisconsin or to Josh Moon - so what? Will Ryan had a tremendous connection to Wisconsin and it meant absolutely nothing - recruiting, attendance, winning, etc. - NOTHING!!
There are only so many D1 jobs open each season - is there NO assistant coach who might currently be at a large power school that might want to be the coach in charge of a D1 program? I don't care that we had a shitty season, there are still only a finite number of open D1 head coaching jobs each year. If we really want to elevate the program and we're ready with the checkbook, we shouldn't have to be desperate and settle for the "close enough" type selection to borrow the terms that GPPhoenix1 used in an earlier post.

I don't think people appreciate how bad this job looks to potential, up and coming type candidates. Like those who are current assistants at "large major institutions." Sure these jobs don't come open often, but it can also become a dead end if you aren't careful.
Furthermore I think a lot of those top assistants are making more than you think. Joe Krabbenhoft was making over $300,000 in 2020 - and that was before he was promoted to associate head coach. DeAndre Haynes at Marquette is rumored to make north of $400,000.

This is 100 percent correct. Beggars can't be choosers. I'm not sure who else was in the mix when Dick Bennett got the job but I can't imagine people were beating the door down then either, and there was way less D1 jobs then than now. Whomever the hire is, if they turn it around it won't matter where they come from. Someone once said good basketball knows no division. You don't need to win the press conference. You need to win games. Right now I have a sneaking suspicion it will be Tharp.

I would guess that most of this is either happening through Zoom or at a location off campus. Maybe not even in the Green Bay area.

I believe the candidates are tharpe,Phillips, barone, Brannen, Gottlieb. And i think hoop dirt said there might be a mystery candidate that there trying keep secret. I would be fine with anyone one of those candidates except with Phillips I don’t like moon being from nothern state and Phillips is from nothern state it wouldn’t be a big time move then.

On-campus interviews would surely happen...on-campus. I may have missed something, but I have only seen reference to finalist interviews this weekend: "Per some one closely connected to the program, they are on to the 3rd round of interviews with the so-called finalists. Those will be sometime this week or this weekend. Don't know if they're in person or not." I don't believe I have read anything saying "on-campus interviews."

If Tharp and Phillips are truly candidates, I doubt that either would be doing on-campus interviews while prepping for DII tournament games tomorrow.
