Re-uniting with former chancellor Gary Miller. Best of luck to him! I always appreciated the few brief interactions I was able to have with him.
Gotta think a couple of obvious potential candidates to take over are Andrew Gavin at UW-Parkside or Paul Plinske at Colorado State - Pueblo.

Does this mean the new AD is going to fire Ryan after a mediocre season so he can make his own hire? I hear AD’s like doing that.

This is terrible of him..he tears our team apart sets us back a few years and then bolts...I do think coach Ryan will be a good coach. The firing of Darner made little sense at the time and had many player's leaving. he should have saw this thru rather than let us fans and players deal with his mess.

Great....More upheaval. Just let Coach Ryan get his program established. We don’t need a carnival barker of an AD who wants to bring a carnival barker of a head coach if Ryan goes sub .500 next season. The GB administration can’t screw this one up.

Kids, relax. The programs are in a good place and all we'll see with a new AD is renewed energy on the fundraising front. In the end, the chancellor called the shots with Darner and signed off on the Ryan hire. The new AD will get his or her marching orders from the chancellor.

I like Gavin as a person even if he (and Jill Wunrow) really didn't like me at all when I was working for the Fourth Estate lol

The timing of this isn't ideal but at the end of the day he didn't sign a lifetime contract with GB. He did some really good things and some others that I don't fully agree with. Overall I think he did a solid job and had a successful tenure in GB. Plus he seems like a good person.
I am happy that he was offered the Akron job. It is probably a nice pay raise, has D1 football and is apparently closer to home based on the press release. Those are all good things for him.
GB will be just fine. The new person isn't likely to come in and blow everything up. I doubt the people who are going to be involved in making this decision would hire someone with that type of personality or plan. For the most part nothing is too broken and in need of immediate fixing. It is important to consider that UWGB is on the smaller end of D1 public schools but unlike much of the world of higher education is growing. They are going to get someone to grow the athletic department with the university. If I were hiring for this position I would hire someone with a track record of increasing the top line revenue. That is what this program needs while the enrollment grows. They need even stronger donor engagement, bigger corporate partnerships and greater ticket revenue.
While I believe nothing is too broken I also don't like the maintain the status quo attitude that lingers around GB on occasion. Starting at the top of Cofrin Library it is time to think big about athletics and then hire the necessary people over at the Kress Center to execute on that.
As for basketball it may not always feel that way but the needle on this program is pointed straight up. However, the challenge I have for the powers that be is to make this more than a stepping stone. This program should never lose a coach to the MAC or MVC again. This program should be resourced at a level that our coach would be crazy to leave for anything less than a P6 plus AAC type job. I would never hire an AD that isn't working towards that day and night.

I also think we should keep half the home games (especially early in the season until the Packer season is over) at the Kress. It helps to keep the student body interested as well.

I don't expect to hear anything soon regarding this opening, it is usually a long process. I believe that Guthrie was at the end of his initial 4 year contract. I think vesting in the pension plan may be at the completion of 5 years.
