Is it? I mean maybe a decade from now once this “program” is built up, but it’s not good when your two top scorers transfer, especially when Amari said he was gonna stick it out after last years turmoil. The near future doesn’t look good at all. This team, if PJ leaves, has maybe two D1 caliber players. The next few years are going to hurt, there is absolutely no way to sugar coat it. Have to wonder how much would’ve changed if we still had Linc. You all knew my feelings about hiring Will, and unfortunately, things are off to an awful start. Yeah, it’s one year in the most unusual season ever, but there is basically no foundation. Always next year gets tiring at some point. Such silliness. The entire roster will be D1 caliber players. Ansong will be competing for all-conference honors. No one in the conference has a better recruiting class. Everyone in the conference will lose major transfers. Green Bay will play high quality, fundamental basketball.

Wow, what a 24-hour stretch. Couple of absolute gut punches. First was the complete garbage banked in three pointer at the buzzer in overtime and now the news of Amari leaving. I agree that Amari is not irreplaceable but he was basically the face of the program after only two years and he still hasn't reached his ceiling, I think he's going to get even better. It's going to leave a big hole to fill and it'll be interesting to see where he ends up. phearthephoenix.com/2021/02/26/after-season-ending-loss-what-comes-next/I posted this on Twitter but Will Ryan seemed to be hinting of a mass exodus after the game last night, which honestly may not be the worst thing. Losing Amari sucks and I really am hoping PJ decides to return but beyond a few guys there really is a lack of "firepower" (as he called it) on the current roster.

With change comes opportunity. Ryan is the head coach and looking back will achieve nothing. This has been the craziest year in the history of college sports. This spring we'll be seeing more transfers across the nation than ever before because of the pandemic fallout and the NCAA rules adjustments. Drink a beverage of your choice and keep an eye on social media. My money is on Ryan and Company sorting things out. They have a great network for recruiting in Wisconsin, as well as some good contacts nationally and overseas. The other factor is time in the off-season to coach their offense and defensive principles.

One thing to keep in mind is Amari and Josh didn't just decide this since the game ended last night. This has been on their radar for awhile. It's likely they already have some possible destinations in mind.
With that said my money is on some players at other places already having their mind on GB.
It would feel better if we already knew who those guys were but we have to wait a bit to find out. I'm sure the GB coaches have a good idea of some talented guys they can get.

As things turned out for Amari he didn't lose a year of eligibility, worked on his 3 ball and greatly improved his defense. Leaving now probably didn't hurt his stock one bit.
In fairness to him he is at his best in the open court. With his length and quickness going to the cup he can find a system to feature that in ways GB doesn't. If not I'd welcome him back as he might find GB isn't a bad spot to be either.
With that in mind in GB's system they don't necessarily need another guy to stretch out and fly like a condor. That is why I feel like his productivity is replaceable even if his sheer athletic ability isn't.

My bet is the coaching staff knows of at least one player transferring in.

I would have liked to see a bit of him.

I know transferring players did not have to sit out a year in 2020 - 2021 but I think the do next season, unless they have graduated.

I feel like last night I was kicked in the nuts. Now after today it feels like someone shot my puppy and ran off with my wife.
This utterly sucks. The next year or two have the chance to be worse than this year. Going to be some dark days ahead.
I sincerely hope it all will be worth it in the end. As a lifetime fan this is soul crushing.
There’s no loyalty in college basketball anymore. Anderson said he wanted to be “the guy” which is why he went to GB. He changed his tune pretty quick.
Now Davis said he sees things through once he starts them. Apparently not. I really thought he’d be the “face of the franchise” the next few years.
Last night I was legit looking forward to next year with the recruits coming in. But after losing Davis it’s going to be really tough to get “psyched up” about GB basketball for awhile.
I really hope Ryan did whatever he could to persuade Davis to stay. He is a complete fool if he was just cool with him leaving just because he doesn’t fit his style.
Ryan made Davis a more complete player. Sure he had some turnover issues but you should absolutely want to reap the benefits of making him better and build your team around it.

These players were all recruited by Darner, the school dumped him, why should they feel ant loyalty. Interesting times with the extra year of eligibility. There should be some quality players available with all the transfers and available scholarships. Not sure what this does to all the class of 22 high school kids.

I think the incoming freshmen could play a lot in year one, especially Kamari

Amari Davis may of caught the coaches by surprise but JJ leaving was probably a known thing for quite some time. So that was no surprise to the staff.
Yeah this sucks and I don’t want to go through another rebuild again but it was due to happen. We were very fortunate to only lost Tank last year therefore this was bound to happen.
As of RIGHT NOW, we have two open scholarships and with the connections and network of our current staff I can’t wait to see who fills them.

For the 2022 high school kids I bet they were waiting on the dust to settle of this off season before sending offers out. Currently there is only one offer out there and it’s Donavan Short
