Oakland comes to town for a Friday and Saturday set. The Friday game is a happy hour special as it tips off at 4pm.
Both teams took some lumps in the non conference as they were the only two Horizon League teams to play multiple high majors. Both teams are also working in multiple new players in the rotation. Both teams in particular had very little experience in the front court.
A few keys to the game.
Is Rashad Williams going to be hot or not. He can and will shoot them in and out of games. To a lesser extent Zion Young will do the same.
Oakland has a quick and small point guard in Jalen Moore. Jalen isn't the best shooter or finisher but he can is getting better. He will put a lot of pressure on GB's defense. The pick and roll defense for GB has been troublesome at times this year and Moore will be a test if he uses screens well.
Oakland now plays a zone defense for almost every possession of the game. They have been able to generate some turnovers out of this. However, they are the kind of team that the defense doesn't necessarily get better as the possession goes on or as the game goes on. GB will have to be diligent in working their offense but can get looks against this defense.
Rebounding is always a concern for GB given the size of the roster. Oakland isn't big but has two guys is Townsend and Oladapo that will suck up rebounds if you aren't careful. Size wise this is a good matchup for Claflin to stay active and Kellogg to return to meaningful action. This is also a matchup where TT can impose his size if he puts his mind to it.
Not a key to the game but an interesting dynamic is the coaching. On one hand you have Greg Kampe, a guy that fans around the league love. On the other hand you have Will Ryan, a guy that fans around the league love to rip on based on his resume and slow start. I personally think Kampe is the most overrated coach in the league. He gets a pass for doing less with more from most people because he is funny. A few wins here would go along way to shutting up some people around the league message boards.
