Hate to play the “what if” game but I bet Manny wishes he wouldn’t have transferred now. I have a feeling Ryan would have developed and used him similar to how Linc was able to develop Fouse. Would have definitely played starter minutes and been used more consistently. Instead he is going to a program that is bottom tier but he will get a lot of minutes.
I think the hiring will sell more tickets especially if Bo offers to be an assistant for a season or two. I know a lot of GB fans myself included can’t stand Bo Ryan but it’s hard to argue with his results. There are a lot of people that are Badger fans first GB second (not me) that this will get them to go to more games as casual fans.
Hiring someone who can do more with less is good and I think we will see attendance increase and in state recruits increase. Linc definitely was not a people person or a media darling and I think Ryan will check both those boxes from what I’m reading.
That said I don’t agree with a comment made on Twitter that GB can’t get big time recruits. Amari Davis is a big time recruit IMO. Linc was doing a good job of being able to land some of the better second level guys and competing with mid majors for those. Unfortunately it’s tough to win with those guys when you lack the Xs and Os and end of game expertise that seemed to plague Linc. I truly hope Will can continue to get Amari Davis or Terrance Thompson type guys, and not just guys like Paul Kraft or Gabe Stevens that are local but don’t offer much else. Let’s hope he can get good recruits that can score and hopefully develop into a good defender something Linc couldn’t do.
I know there are spilt feelings about this hire and the Linc fire. All that’s over with now and we need to support the program either way. We all want a team that contends year in and year out for a conference title and as much as most of us wanted him to, Linc wasn’t able to do that. His teams were built for a potential hot run on a weekend in March not for the long haul.
I do hope Jimmie lands on his feet somewhere and does well. Just not anywhere close to the Horizon 😉
Like someone mentioned I’m excited at the prospect of Wisconsin finally “returning the favor” by playing a game here. If it happens I think it will be in the next year or two before Ryan can build a program that can beat Wisconsin at home. It’s too bad next year is already set in stone as I think it would be a good year to persuade Wisconsin to come here.
