In my research Butler is a good student and a hard worker that is developing at a fast pace. He had a tweet that his first dunk was in May of 2021 and it wasn't that emphatic. In his highlight video from this past season he was able to really elevate to the hoop in transition. His video had great handles, good court vision, scored at all levels and very good form on his jumper. Given that he is a late bloomer and played against some smaller schools I can see why his recruitment isn't popping right now. He certainly looks like a guy that will be D1 level at some point after he gets adjusted to the level of the game. In the old days he'd be a 4 for 5 guy. In my mind depending on who GB adds as a starting guard will kind of determine if Butler could find a spot on the roster, he is certainly worth keeping an eye on.

Difficult times for high school seniors, so much emphasis being placed on transfers. Maybe a good time to pick up a late bloomer. I know he gave Denmark fits when they played each other. I would still like a transfer or two to balance out the classes.

With the transfer portal, NIL, and no sit-out rule the dynamics of mid-major recruiting is happening under radically different rules and recruit's expectations. For the Nix that means tapping into overlooked markets. That includes prospects who have been lost in the shuffle like Zach Short, selective JUCOs, NAIA, D2, D3 and high school ranks. I'd leave a couple of scholarship open going into the summer with the potential for walk-ons to earn a ride. There are some good building blocks in place and potential complimentary players on the horizon.

I watched a lot of high school ball over the last couple of weeks, some players that stood out to me and I think are still available include: Clay - Menomonee Falls Wells - Eau Claire Memorial Paider - Neenah Rose - Westosha Central I can't believe we left Rohde from Brookfield Central get out of the state. He reminds me of Decker. Wells accepted an offer from Northern Kentucky. I saw him in person several times, he is very athletic with room for improvement. I guess we will have an opportunity to see him more in the future. In any case Green Bay needs guards at the moment.

He looks great around the rim but doesn't show any range. I thought it really hurt GB's offense last season that not every forward could hit a jumper or was even considered a threat to shoot from the perimeter. I get you don't want to have guys fall in love with the perimeter shot but some of the basic action in the offense puts the GB forwards in spots on the perimeter that they need to be able to shoot or drive a little bit. If they are not a threat to score then the defense doesn't have to move and room for other players doesn't open. Wells is interesting but didn't really fill a need for GB.

Kind of like mock draft grades, no one really knows how it’s going to turn out but it’s still fun anyway. What grade do you give GB hoops this off-season? (I’m assuming we are done and going to bank a scholarship)
I will give it a B+
Things are definitely looking up!

That is a good offseason question. In essence, this has been the biggest roster rebuild in the history of the program and it will take several seasons to determine the outcome. What caused the need to do this in the first place? A lot has to do with timing. Darner's firing came late in the cycle for coaching hires and recruiting. The pandemic during a coaching change made things harder for the Nix than what other schools were going through. The playing style transition from Darner to Ryan was a bad fit for some players. Finally, the NCAA transfer rules were the cherry on top for the mass disruption of a program already in transition.
Eight, nine new players, and perhaps another walk-on or scholarship player? If a team ever needed names on the back of jerseys GB is it. A common theme I've seen in write-ups of the recruits is -- work ethic and team players. I hope that is true. The past AAU connection with some of the guys should help, as will the increasing Wisconsin core of the squad. JUCO players as a rule have paid some high dues to get to the next level. Green Bay's team overall will be more athletic, bigger, and more experienced than Ryan's pandemic squads.
The basic question is how well they will play as a team.

Of all the items you listed as causes of mass turnover, the one I am most concerned with is the easy transfer rules. The other ones you listed are transitory and will pass - hopefully we can have an environment where guys will want to stay.

We still have one open scholarship, correct? Having a hard time finding anything online that may hint towards how we may use the final spot.

Correct chris bready seems wants to play for uwgb because he from Wisconsin. He has good size for a wing at 6’5. Maybe jaylon gentry? Maybe marlon ruffin?Lots of people will say bank but I wonder why? Is the 2023 really loaded the only good player I see the Phoenix have a offer in is Jeremy Lorenz and they already have a lot of bigs.

Don't you think that if Chis Bready or any of the others that you mentioned really wanted to play for Green Bay they have committed by now. What Green Bay needs are players who play for each other and not themselves. That is what basketball is all about.

Chris Bready told me he was waiting until uwgb extended his scholarship. You might be right I didn’t think transfers had to have there scholarships extended maybe someone on here knows about this. But he said he wants to play for uwgb to come back to his home state.
