There is no time like the present to get the stench from Sunday out of the Resch and fill it with the sweet smell of spilled $3 beer and popcorn from fans as they are high fiving from celebrating a big win over our rival UWM. As a bonus there is a retro jersey give away. If you are on the fence this should help get you over the hump! The game is at 6pm on Saturday.
As for UWM there are some key stats to review. GB had a big drop in the NET and KenPom after the loss which sucked. Luckily for UWM their numbers aren’t good so they won’t be experiencing a big drop after they lose this game. Their NET is 251 and their KenPom is 257. On offense they are 274, defense is 203 and tempo 142 with a non-conference strength of schedule of 260. They have an 0-5 road record, it is fair to say they have earned these low numbers.
On offense UWM shoots 40.7% and 67.2% from the line. They shouldn’t be able to out shoot GB. They take 38% of their shots from deep but as a team only shoot 31.7% from deep. Their top three scorers (Roy, Lucas and Thomas) are 33%, 26% and 20% respectively. Getting these guys to take contested shots will be important because if they rotate the ball to Brown, Mitchell or Bingham the shooting percentage moves up a fair amount. GB can’t let the other guys beat them.
Something I find interesting is that Roy only shoots 39% on 2’s, he takes a lot of shots but isn’t that great of a shooter and forces up some junk. He can shoot them in or out of a game. Conversely Lucas is so fast and shoots 50% on 2’s because he can get to the hoop. Thomas is even better at 55% on 2’s. GB can’t let these guys get going to the hoop which has been an issue for GB on defense. Kam, Hunter and PJ play the best on the ball defense in my opinion and will really need to contain these guys.
UWM is a slight negative on the glass, while they have big guys the best rebounders by volume are their 3 guards. GB needs to contain this. Also, the team has a negative assist to turnover ratio even though the 3 guards are all positive. Making other players make plays doesn’t bode well for UWM.
In the past UWM ran a lot of horn sets and tried to get easy looks for Amir Allen from it. Allen has been out recently. I think UWM is still using their horn sets but they seem best in transition right now.
It is time to keep the ball rolling against UWM and get back to the winning ways.
