The game is on Saturday at 1pm, the broadcast is on ESPN+.
By most categories GB has a better offense. GB is more efficient, has a better shooting percentage, more assists and a better assist to turnover ratio while playing at a higher tempo. This WSU team has a solid tempo and scores 80ppg so it isn't total apples to oranges like it might have been in years past for style.
Wright State is a better rebounding team gives up a lot few points per game. The hard part to compare to is GB has played a very hard schedule and Wright State has not.
Wright State isn't a great 3 point shooting team for a team that has a good field goal percentage. The game is probably as simple as it seems. Keep WSU off the glass and make their other guys beat you from the perimeter. Now that doesn't mean let them have easy shots, it means force non shooters to make tough shots.

Great Linc Darner quote incoming. “We’re going to have to get lucky if we want to have a chance in this game.”

Great Linc Darner quote incoming. “We’re going to have to get lucky if we want to have a chance in this game.” I am sure he doesn't actually believe that they need luck, though it does seem to be his PC thing to say without saying anything at all. He doesn't seem to want attention on himself, leak any insight into the game strategy or give any bulletin board material. However, that has given the fan base little to go off of when we do hear from him.

Wright State looks to be pretty solid. Right around 105-115 in KenPom Rankings. They have faced one of the easiest schedules in the nation. I think the key will be how to match up with them defensively. We have to be able get some stops and defensive rebounds to finish possessions. They don't turn the ball over much so how we decide to play them will be interesting to me.
It would be a tremendous win on the road to start conference season. If we can stay competitive, I'll be optimistic headed into the rest of conference play.

Well, this is going about as well as we’ve imagined it would.

It was going pretty well until both Amari and Jayquan both picked up 3 fouls with more than 7 minutes to go in the half. Since then nobody has stepped up and Love has dominated.

This foul count is absolutely ridiculous. But calling 3 fouls on Amari and Jayquen is such a homer job. I think Wampler got his first foul called on him with like 2 mins first half. Same over the back call back to back and GB gets the foul. I know they are supposed to win and are supposedly the better team but cmon at least make the calls a little less obvious.
My prediction(hope I’m wrong), Amari or Jayquen) will get a quick tricky tack foul called on them in first two minutes.
We got some steals and good defensive stops early but then they called a foul every trip,

Well I thought that Will did a good job of defending Love, but the three point defense was atrocious. Make them earn their baskets.

Coaching really showed during that 11-0 run by Wright State to end the game.

Well they covered the spread and played much better than I thought but sooner or later they need to close one of these out over a good team. Moral victories only go so far. This would have been a statement game.
I assume pipes played limited minutes cause of his injury but he should always see the floor over Christ when healthy.
Something tells me they are gonna get demolished on Monday. They never seem to play well on those back to back games with one day rest.
Refs were a joke but wright st missed enough fts were this game was there for the taking.

The refs were horrid, and having to listen to the worst broadcast team in the league, made for a bad viewing experience.

A tough loss in a place that has been historically tough for GB to win at. In some regards the game should show the rest of the league GB isn't that far from the top after all, yet in others it is just another L in the books.
A few things that stood out. First you aren't going to win any games being -21 on the glass. Nice shooting night for Will, that was great to see but zero boards isn't going to get the job done. I suspect he knows that and agrees. Second Manny had 4 rebounds in 11 minutes but he committed 4 fouls to take himself out of the game. One was senseless, one didn't happen and should have been a steal and two that were legit. Either way GB needed more than 11 minutes out of him. Third, Ash had been 0-10 on 3's and made a wide open one. I get giving him a look but this is D1, eventually he is going to knock a shot down. I would like to see them close guys like that out better. For that matter Hall was 37% coming from 3 and went 3 for 5 and it felt like his weren't really contested.
GB took a 65-60 lead at the 8:09 mark. From that point until :27 were left the teams had 13 possessions each. I almost can't believe I am going to type this but GB's offense failed them more than their defense. I say that because GB wasn't getting a ton of stops anyway. However, in those 13 possessions WSU shot and missed 4 times, shot and missed with a rebound and then a score 4 times and just scored 5 times. GB got a stop and then Amari missed a 3. GB and WSU then traded baskets 4 straight times. In the next 7 possessions WSU had 3 scores, 2 miss and reload scores and 2 stops. GB had a Jayquan miss, Amari offensive foul, JayQuan miss 3, Amari miss 2 FT, Amari miss layup, Kam miss layup and JayQuan miss. Between not being able to rebound the ball and then not being able to score when they had chances a 5 point lead turned into an 8 point hole with WSU going on a 13 point run from 4:59 to :27. I am not ripping on anyone in particular, it is just when you are built to score you need to keep scoring and unfortunately GB missed their chances. I still love the offense and GB is fairly efficient for the tempo they play at. Plus they don't really turn the ball over for the tempo either. Of their 8 to's several were on charges and most charges are actually blocks called incorrectly (hint I agree with others on the reffing in this one).
In summary it was a good effort, an entertaining game that hopefully sent a message to the league that GB is for real. Now rebound and keep scoring so GB gets some W's.

Also, one rule change I would like to propose. Unless you are subbing for the shooter on a FT you shouldn't be able to sub in after the 1st free throw attempt. WSU subbed on every one of their second free throw makes. This takes probably 6 easy points per game off the board for GB who makes a living out of transition scoring. Seriously though nothing has changed, a non shooter replacement shouldn't be allowed in. I am pretty sure this is how the NBA does it.
