Quoted from the Athletic today: The schedule is slowly taking shape. Syracuse most likely will play in the Carrier Dome against Georgetown, travel someplace for the ACC-Big 10 Challenge, play in a tournament at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Conn., and host a handful of in-state schools during the nonconference slate. The schedule is still being worked out, Boeheim says, but it will be released in the coming weeks. “We’re excited to get going,” says Boeheim, who will enter his 45th season. “We can do it safely.”

Milwaukee is hosting a tournament that includes North Dakota State.
With the cap on non conference games and the HL playing up to 22 conference games it might not leave a lot of room to play the Summit Challenge this year.
I see the Badgers are going to try and host a little event this year instead of playing in Florida. Maybe GB can be part of that and pick up extra games.
I know the University of Illinois is hosting something similar.
I would love to see GB in a bubble like the one in Louisville, that has a loaded mid major field. While I don't get the sense that is in the cards for GB the HL should work to get Wright State in that event. It is close to home and could give them a chance at several resume building mid major wins.
Speaking only from a fan perspective I hope they play the maximum number of games and not the minimum.

Yeah it’s confusing but I think he’s saying MU’s 7-game schedule will look like this: - MKE MTE - MKE MTE - v UWGB - v Oklahoma State - v Wisconsin - at UCLA - v TBA I don’t think GB will be doing an MTE this season

It is great to see that Marquette and GB are able to get a game on the books. I hope that can be something they do more often in the future.
The down side is that the city of Milwaukee has such limited gathering restrictions that I can't imagine many if any fans from either team will be allowed in. I would assume that in a building as big as the Fiserv Forum a way to get a small crowd together would be feasible. However, I don't sense the powers that be in the city of Milwaukee have an appetite for that sort of thing at this time even if the leaders at MU probably do.

I think based on the challenges of this year due to COVID, I will reserve my anti-D3 scheduling rants. I just want basketball: D3 heavy NC sched, empty/partially-empty arenas, roster issues if there are players infected with COVID. Some basketball is better than NO basketball.

The conference schedule came out and while I understand on the surface it looks mostly the same for all teams I will say that in a pandemic the conference didn't do GB any favors.
From a cost perspective GB can easily bus to 3 or 4 member institutions (UWM, UIC, and depending on perspective of easy 6 hours to PFW or IUPUI). From a cost and control your environment perspective taking a bus to these schools could be desirable. GB only plays UIC on the road while the other 3 all come to GB.
Meanwhile they have to go on the road to all 3 Ohio schools. GB most likely will have to incur the expense of flying for these games. Also, 2 of these games will be played in 2021 when the league revisits allowing fans. That is important because I sense WI isn't going to be allowing gatherings by then and even if they are I am not sure the university will. By comparison Ohio is more likely to allow limited gatherings. If the league allows it and the teams choose to do it that creates a home court advantage for some of the teams that are expected to be near the top of the standings. Yes GB does avoid WSU having fans based on the game date but it is possible they will be playing true road games at other top teams while playing the equivalent of neutral site home games.
I am happy they are playing games, don't get me wrong. I was hoping for a little more balance then what I am seeing so far.

With the Home/away stands- Youngstown has a stretch where they will play 8 of 10 on the road. The only team in the top 7 of the preseason standings they get at home is UIC. Otherwise they play at WSU, NKU, RMU, OU and CSU. They also don't get to play preseason #10 UWM. If they get a 2nd place finish like predicted they will have earned it.

GB's non-conference schedule is officially out with 9 days to spare! Road games at Wisconsin (12/1) and Northern Iowa (12/12) round out the 5 non-conference games in addition to the three dates that we already knew:
11/25 - at Minnesota 12/1 - at Wisconsin 12/5 - vs Eastern Illinois (Kress Center) 12/8 - at Marquette 12/12 - at Northern Iowa
Overall I like this schedule, all things considered. One home game against a winnable mid-major opponent and four road games that are all within bus ride distance against some name brand opponents. Great to have Marquette back on the schedule, hopefully that becomes a yearly thing (but probably not after the loss in their last Resch Center appearance). Northern Iowa is the favorite to win the MVC so it will be a good mid-major measuring stick game.
Also represents an opportunity to play on TV. The Marquette game is already slated for FS1 and hopefully the Minnesota and Wisconsin games will be on BTN.
Maybe GB can steal a game or two in what will be empty arenas. Either way, it's great to be talking hoops!

I wouldn't describe the GB schedule as any easier than in past years. I would actually say it is harder given there are no layups at home. Coach Ryan did not get a free ride in year one.
Given the circumstances of this season I am pleased with the games they did schedule and if they perform well against these teams that will bode well for Horizon League play.
