6:00 PM tip-off on ESPN3 against the preseason favorites. The Raiders have won 3 straight after a 2-3 start to the conference season and are now one of three teams at 5-3, 2 games behind NKU for the conference lead
WSU is a 9 point favorite tonight.

Lets see if the staff has a game plan out together to stop Loudon Love. Lesson should of been learned against NKU.

This commentary duo is without a doubt the worst I’ve had the displeasure of hearing.

I’m convinced that we have some guys that are just not coachable... That’s the only way I can explain how we play. They must not be listening to what the coaches are telling them to do... So sad but I’ve seen it too many times. We will have to find a way to shake it off and having 5 at home has to do it.
Some of our guys are not showing any pride...

Not going to lie I am really not liking the direction this program is going at the moment. You can tell guys aren’t putting in the effort on the defensive end, it was fairly evident tonight.
I understand it is tough to go on the road and win but we can’t even go on the road and be COMPETITIVE. There’s going to be a lot of pressure to come back and win Friday night at the Kress against a solid Milwaukee squad who is trending upward while we are going in the opposite direction.
Honestly guys let’s chat, what’s going on with the current team? I’m I the only one nervous about the future of the program? Should we be in a better state in year 4 of Linc Darner? Is the development of the Sophmore class worrisome to anybody else? Was bringing in 4 JUCO’s a mistake and will cost the program in the long run?
Just want to be able to say “Continue the Rise” again. Goodnight

Linc Darner is clearly a good coach, but maybe it's not going to work out at GB for him. When I watch his teams, it's like the opposite of the excellent Purdue teams he was a part of. Purdue teams were tough and smart. His last couple GB teams haven't shown those qualities. Darner looked good as coach at GB while he still had some of Wardle's players. As those guys have graduated, his teams have gotten so sloppy and soft that it's tough to watch despite playing at a high tempo that in theory should be fun to play in and watch.
I suspect he'll have 1 more year to turn things around. If he doesn't turn it around this year or next, maybe it's time to give someone else a shot. There are some players on this team that I like, but the style of play is so loose that things can get away quickly for them as a team. Who knows, maybe he can turn things around, but it looks like things are getting worse instead of better.

-7 on the glass isn't going to cut it. Also, I don't understand letting the best inside player in the league start the game against guys who aren't big or strong enough to defend him. Love only scored 1 point when Manny Patterson was in the game but by that time in the second half the damage was done.
On offense it was hard for certain guys, like Sandy to get rolling with the spacing. When you have Tank and McNair playing more than 10 feet from the hoop they are not a weapon and the defense treats them as such and sags way off. That crowds things for the other guys. GB rarely uses a ball screen as well so guys like Sandy are asked to do a lot with little help. It makes him look bad at times when I don't think all of the blame should be at his doorstep.
On defense so many guys are looking to make a home run play, some guys get caught in the passing lane and give up penetration or cuts to the rim. A few other guys don't do this but look to be resting on defense so they aren't solid either. The few bigs that GB has or plays are not rim protectors. It is a mismatch of reasons for the bad defense.
So what positives do I have? Cody on offense. Yeah he didn't make a lot of outside shots but he looked aggressive which hasn't always been the case. His defense isn't great inside so if he isn't looking aggressive then he isn't contributing. I will also give credit to McNair. He was put in an different spot of gaurding the PG on the perimeter. He didn't do great but he didn't let it stop his hustle. He finished a bunch of easy buckets right at the rim.
Obviously this isn't going well this year. While the athletic ability is there in most of the players it is a weird mix of being undersized or not enough skill at every position to put everything together.
I think the most likely scenario is for fans to buckle up and hope for enough philosphy change and roster change that this trend doesn't continue. I don't see Linc going anywhere at this point in time. The only thing that might change that is a decrease in ticket sales and donations. GB is near the top of the league if not the top in both categories. They are also last in school supported money. So those two categories do drive the ship a little bit at GB and if they decline in a big way the buck will have to stop somewhere.
As for a few other questions I don't like that 4 JUCO players were brought in. I think 2 should have been the max. The roster is not balanced now and when all of these guys are gone the team will be really young again and as fans we don't appear likely to have any meaningful seasons to show for it.
It is hard to judge the developement of the second year players. Linc recruited over them. One thing I believe about basketball is that you have to be given consistent time to get comfortable in your role. This was game #21 and we had a new starting lineup again. Guys like PJ and Manny go in and out of the starting lineup. Guys like Bell and Crist are going in and out of the bench rotation. Look at a guy like Kam. He now knows that he is locked into a big time non ball handling role off of the bench and his production has been consistent since that happened. Stop winging it with everyone else and actually play guys in positions they can succeed.
At this point it seems like we have what we have going forward and yes that probably isn't what I expected 4 years into this.
The good news is we have the easist schedule remaining IMO. GB has NKU, WSU, OU and UDM at home. They play UIC, CSU and YSU on the road. So every team at the top of the standings is coming to GB and every team at the bottom is a road game. So there is a chance to do much better than 4-5 in the next 9 games. I am down but I am not out just yet!

RP40 is the relentless pressure that Linc will face going into next year if this year's team doesn't finish strong; At least a strong finish in the conference standings and a major run in the conference tourney.
We have a lot of wing players with good athleticism but deficient in skill. Other than Manny and maybe Cody (as of late) we don't have a lot of size/toughness inside. And this team has done a complete 180 on defensive culture since the Bennett/Heideman days and even more recently with BW......Defense is only optional now. You can get away with not stopping other teams provided if you can get turnovers and shoot well from 3 pt. range, a la the classic Loyola Marymount teams that trapped and press all game and shot well from outside, that is if they weren't running the fastbreak........This program as no identity other than disorganized basketball.
