This was an average BG team, that GB should have handled at home. How could this team be so ill-prepared with nearly a week off after the NIU game? RP40? .....RP40 now stands for Really Pathetic for 40 minutes. If Linc has another season like he did last year, what are the chances he gets fired? This would be a good chance for Gutherie to get his own coach here.

The team being so inconsistent is worrying to me.

This game was just combination of a number of little things that I don't think we will really face in the Horizon League...
1st - Bowling Green bigs were just too much and it doesn't help when Patterson is on bench with 2 fouls after the 1st 2 minutes of the game against one of the best offensive rebounding teams in all of NCAA. (They just matches up well against us...)
2nd - Cold shooting, top 3 leading scorers didn't score well at all initially. Sandy points all came late when we were chasing 30 points.
3rd - Nothing really off bench this game besides Cody as McCloud struggled some
4th - It happens, Bowling Green was 3-0 at home and they play better at home. They lost to Detroit and Cleveland State but both on the road.
I'm not worried but I do know that certain match-ups of bigger skilled bigs will give us issue such as Iowa and Michigan State especially with Manny still still getting the fouls as he jock for position on defense or offense but the 6'7 or 6'8 kids in our conference will not be an issue.
In conference, we have to worry more about the 3 point shooting of the top teams...
PS... I do expect to get wins like this from a great team but I think we still itching towards that and hopefully will come in Conference play.

We beat NIU and Belmont at home and now you go total opposite after a bad shooting game by key players and your leading scorers and that's the coach fault. They took the same shots they been taking except they didn't go in. Just crazy...

Between obligations and the Wisconsin/Marquette game overlapping, I was only able to catch the last 12 minutes of this one. By that time all the damage was done. I am choosing to not watch the replay on ESPN+ and move on. Hopefully that is the "egg" game that GB lays this year.

I agree with Panther 100%.
We have a ton of new players that are learning how each other plays. A team doesn't just gel overnight. Also, going from JUCO to D1 is a different animal and players will learn they need to bring it each game. However, at the end of the day they are kids and we need to remember that. So, we need to support the team and coaching staff, win or lose.

Being down 35 points and losing by 29 can’t feel good to the players or coaching staff in addition to the fans. I can’t blame anyone for being down after that game. If you have been a GB fan for a while you have been around some missteps and heartache, you wouldn’t be human if you didn’t question yourself once in a while on why you endure it. For me, it is going to take a lot more than this to break me.
Coach Darner has a contract that runs through the 2022-23 season at 230k/year. With coach being owed $920,000 moving forward it is going to take a lot more bad losses. Even then if it ever gets to this point finding people with that kind of money laying around to make a change who won’t have reached a point of total apathy will be hard to do. My focus is going to be on what the program needs to help coach win.
I will admit that I knew the score of the game on Saturday but it took me an extra 24 plus hours before I actually could bring myself to watch it. I have to agree with much of what Panther wrote. This didn’t look much different than many other games on offense. Their motion offense is creating looks. Against the zone they have been able to get the ball into the free throw line area in the hands of guys who can do something with the ball. Their baseline out of bounds play created several open looks for Cody and Bell. They ran the same play at least 4 times and the only time BGSU covered up the open 3, Cody drove in for a foul. They had some runouts that didn’t lead to buckets. McNair and Smith have rim checked dunks recently. McCloud does take difficult shots but he does make them, he was just really cold. I though Kam lost a little confidence after going 0-4 he stopped shooting as well. Most of his shots were dribble pullups which to me are good looks for him.
As panther eluded to the rebounding was the problem. With Manny going out with 2 fouls at the 17:53 mark that created a big void in the middle. This is where I have had and still do take a little issue with Coach Darner’s philosophy. He has never looked at or maybe never been able to bring in some size. I get that to make the offense work he needs guys who can run and shoot. Yet if you ever want to win a high major game or a game like this the team is going to need size. They were eaten up by BGSU. I thought Bell battled but he is no match for Wiggins. I know Iowa and Oregon operate in a different world but they were so much bigger than GB as well and GB had to work so hard to stay in those games. To Panther’s point the HL doesn’t have too many true big men that GB can’t match up with but long term I really think they need to find some big men for games like this and others that fans want to see them win. Perhaps a bigger stronger Chevalier helps the cause in the future. Also, Wiggins seemed to draw a foul for the smallest of contact in the first half which was frustrating. In the second half I thought Manny battled and actually started to pester Wiggins. At one point you could see Manny talking and Wiggins responded with “come on boy” before drawing a technical for taunting shortly thereafter.
I hate the UW Stout type games. Yet the way basketball has changed now even Wright State and teams of a similar financial level can afford to pay $50,000 plus to buy D1 home games. GB just isn’t there yet on the financial side. The Mark Adams info indicates you need to spend $3,000,000 if you want to have a chance to compete. I believe GB is at $1,900,000 or so.

Hey GBPhoenix1, is there a link to the Mark Adams info you referenced above? I'm wondering how he came up with the 3 mil mark.

Mark Adams puts all of his content on Facebook. You can scroll through his timeline to find some interesting information. I have also found it by Google searching Mark Adams college basketball spending or something similar and some of the articles come up. He has multiple articles on the subject.

I found his FB page.....Greta detail about the BB spend on D1 teams. If GB got to the mid-high 2 million range, I would be happy. Hope Charles Gutherie can get the fundraising momentum going like MEG did when she was here.
For those interested, you can look for Mark Adams on FB under the name, EnthusiAdams
