Former Gb coach Mike Heideman passed away. A great assistant under Dick Bennett. He had a tough act to follow when he moved up to head coach.

Sorry to hear that. I believe maybe the only time I remember the Phoenix being ranked in USA today's top 25 was his 1st year '95-'96. That was a great season, at least the regular season was. They even put just a smidgen of nervousness into future national champ Kentucky (considered one of the best college teams of all time) when they played them getting the lead down to single digits with a few minutes to go and forcing UK to stop pressing as they ate it up.
Anyways, thanks for the memories and RIP coach Heidemann.

This was sad news indeed. I was in GB during that 95-96 run where GB got an at-large bid. I was also at the NCAA first round game versus Va Tech where GB lost. I wish we could have had that potential rematch versus Kentucky (which we did lose to them by only 4 at Rupp).
After that season however, the program began their slide to the bottom of the HL.
