ETSU has a coach that used to work for Milwaukee, Jason Shay. Wright State has Sharif Chambliss, who also worked for Milwaukee. I would guess those guys are the connections that have ETSU and WSU to be in the mix.
I know relationships matter but guys move on quickly, this is a high stakes business. I think that is part of why the transfer rate is so high. I think kids should also factor more on where they could see themselves for 4 years even if the coach they know leaves. Also, there is zero doubt in my mind that Steve Forbes at ETSU has his eyes on other jobs. He constantly recruits JUCO and D1 transfers. He seems like he wants to win a lot and quickly so that he can move on. I know Darner gets JUCO guys and D1 transfers but in his case Jespersen, Cohen and Schwartz are guys that wanted to come close to home. In this class he brought in 5 freshman and is making tons of 2019 and 2020 offers. This seems like the work of guy who wants to build a program as he knows a higher profile job is not a guarantee.
I will be disappointed if Curtis goes to WSU or ETSU over GB.
Big D from the Wright State board who seems very plugged into things wrote that WSU has 4 verbal commits ready to sign this week. He didn't have the names but he did not predict that Curtis was one of the four.
